In the follow-up to their 2018 bestseller “How Democracies Die,” authors Daniel Ziblatt and Steven Levitsky write about three rules that political parties must follow: accept the results of fair elections, reject the use of violence to gain power and break ties to extremists.

In the aftermath of the 2020 election, they write, only one U.S. political party “violated all three.”

Saturday marks the third anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, and Donald Trump, the former president, is far-and-away the leading Republican candidate in 2024. He still refuses to acknowledge his earlier loss to President Joe Biden. Far from rejecting the rioters, he has suggested he would pardon some of those who have been convicted of violent crimes. Rather than distance himself from extremists, he welcomes them at his rallies and calls them patriots.

I’ve been told that their was no riot. That it was all made up and that Antifa and BLM and Biden had people dress up like MAGA supporters in an attempt to make Trump look bad.

I wish I was making that up. But sadly, there are many brainwashed fools out there who believe crazy nonsense like this. I mean FFS its 2024 and there are people out there who think the earth is flat.

Which reminded me that Kevin Sorbo tried pushing for the Jan 6 insurrection and after it failed, he deleted the posts and said it was an Antifa plot to frame Donald Trump.

Speaking of flat earthers, Folding Ideas has a great video on flat earthers and why we don’t really hear about them anymore… for the worst of reasons. Really great video

Thank you. A Great and disturbing video at the same time. I usually wrote off these types as uneducated dolts. I viewed the whole “Make Things Great Again” as a late chapter of older people looking at their final years with nostalgia of how good things were when they were young and full of energy.

The super dangerous thing is they want a Hitler like Trump, for a punishing authoritarian rule to crush the *climate scientists, gays, liberals, minorities, immigrants, and anyone they don’t like to restore the world as they see fit. More importantly to shut them up so they don’t need to deal with these things that don’t fit into their world.

The hijacking of the #savethechildren hash tags and the flat earthers movement are Trojan horses to get one over into the Q world is eye opening.

And I had forgotten about the mass arrests by the end of 2020 which we all didn’t see play out, well except for the Jan 6 insurrectionists which occurred after this was released. There was a foreshadowing of something happening in that August 2019 interview. Sounds like there will be more to come no matter which way the next election goes.

And it seems for many it’s because they can’t handle the world isn’t simple, it’s actually complicated more than most can handle. A dictator will fix this and make their big top conspiracies true and the the world is easy to process.

After this I really enjoyed his video on Gamestop and the craziness of the “Apes” with Bed & Bath and Beyond crashing.

          I agree with you 100%

The world is so unbelievably complicated. Dictators and conspiracy theories make it digestible.

No possible outcome, however destructive, is worse than “losing”. It has become a mental illness.

Yes, we must all come to grips with the fact that republicans are traitor swine. They should be treated accordingly.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

WASHINGTON (AP) — In the follow-up to their 2018 bestseller “How Democracies Die,” authors Daniel Ziblatt and Steven Levitsky write about three rules that political parties must follow: accept the results of fair elections, reject the use of violence to gain power and break ties to extremists.

While the Congress returned that night to certify the election results and show the world democracy was still standing, Biden said Trump is now trying to revise the narrative of what happened that day — calling the rioters “patriots” and promising to pardon them.

At a quieter Capitol, without much ceremony planned for Saturday, it will be the last time the anniversary will pass before Congress is called upon again, on Jan. 6, 2025, to certify the results of the presidential election – democracy once more put to the test.

A giant portrait of George Washington resigning his military commission hangs in the U.S. Capitol, a symbol of the voluntary relinquishing of power — a move that was considered breathtaking at the time.

More than 1,200 people have been charged in the riot, with nearly 900 convicted, including leaders of the extremist groups the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who are serving lengthy terms for seditious conspiracy.

Trump has called Jan. 6 defendants “hostages” and said there was so much love at the “Stop the Steal” rally he held near the White House that day before he encouraged the mob to march down Pennsylvania Avenue, assuring he would be with them at the Capitol, though he never did join.
