There are few things in this world I love more than hearing someone talk about something they’re passionate about, and I have this little feeling that you’ve got a good story and want to share it.
So, what’s your latest project, OP?
Mine is my '97 Prelude that runs and drives but needs work. So until I get jack stands, it’s not getting worked on yet. Once I do have jack stands, it’ll probably get parked on them for a few months while I address the things I can.
It mostly needs fluids and suspension work. It does have an oil leak that needs addressing. Then I’ll get to the body issues. Two big dents. I’d like to see what PDR can do to pop them out. If they can be done relatively cheap, I’m going to give it a new coat of paint in the original Milano Red. Myself. Because Maaco would have charged damn near what I paid for the thing. So I’m gonna try a roller paint job. If it’s really expensive to get the dents taken care of, I’ll probably leave the body alone. I kinda like the concept of a car that’s mechanically sound but looks like a piece of shit. It also needs the spoiler because the Type SH does not have an interior third brake light. It’s in the spoiler. Someone along the line must not have liked the spoiler and took it off. The trunk lid was obviously repainted. So anyway the car has no third brake light.
I paid $2,700 for the thing. So I’m not about to spend another $7k to have a car that’s worth at best $5k. It’s got 253,000 miles on it. It’ll never sell for what top shelf 5th gens command. And I do so little driving now. I did the math that it’ll take another 17 years for me to roll the odometer to 300k.
If you have access to an air compressor, harbor freight sells paint guns pretty cheap. You can get maaco quality out of them with a little practice/setup. And better quality if you take your time prepping.
I understood maybe a third of the words you said, but:

made me laugh. Thanks for sharing, and I sincerely hope you see it hit 300k, or at least get a bit more fun out of fixing it up.
The 2000 Volkswagen golf TDI that’s been sitting in pieces behind my dad’s shop for like a year and a half is probably the biggest sore spot for me. Granted, it already didn’t run, it popped the timing belt and I got it for free. But it needs the engine out and some machine shop work, needs a bunch of interior work, and most new suspension stuff, and I’ve just been too busy and too depressed to work on it.
The other stuff that still kinda runs but sre definitely projects is my old lifted 99 Subaru forester that has a twisted frame and needs a new transmission (lol its my forest offroad beater); my daily honda which just needs some interior panels, a door hinge, and new cv axles + shocks; the $400 Subaru outback that needs an engine swap because Subaru moment (gonna daily it tho, it’s a super nice top limited trim)… I seem to constantly stack them up and I’ve done nothing to reduce the backlog lol
Ahh, yeah. I understand why you haven’t finished the Volkswagen project. I hope you do someday, though!
Or, you know, just take another swing at the ever growing backlog.
I’ve already got an order sheet planned out for next week for the stuff that the Honda needs. Since it’s my daily,I figure if I can at least catch up on every relatively minor thing it needs when I get a week off from university for spring break, I’ll feel a lot better about myself.
Me in project zomboid:
Have they included mechanics in the crafting overhaul?
I’m unstoppable
Have you tried installing brakes?
Brakes are for chumps. If you’re going fast enough, everything in your way just disappears.
I race a Saturn station wagon and just bought a non running f150. I’m not sure what’s wrong with me.
I’m convinced that it’s all of the leaded gas and exhaust fumes
Where did you get this picture of me!?
Through your bathroom window
Doing great work! The fewer working cars, the better!
