With traditional home and auto loans there is a mandated disclosure form that lists your APR, finance charges, fees, and specifically early payoff or extra payments and whether those have any sort of penalty. I’ve personally never seen one list a fee for this (I actually just financed a car two weeks ago and went through this) on our home loan or any other prior car loan and thought it was outlawed with the regulations that got passed after the great recession when everyone was facing foreclosure.

I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that that stuff like payday loans or Klarna payment plans included some sort of penalty since they’re designed to be as predatory as possible, but I’ve never used anything like that.

Do these really exist? I thought that practice was banned after the '08 recession, but perhaps it was only with certain loans like home and auto.

Especially for $900. My 16TB HDDs were like $150 each last year.

Remember when you posted Ken Martin’s mission statement shortly after he took over? He said he wants to win above all else and this is just an extension of that mission. I doubt he really cares who it is doing the “winning” just so long as they have a “D” next to their name.

That’s precisely the election strategy they’ve been using for decades, to make you feel good right before the election, so you forget about how they’ve abandoned you for all those years prior and vote for them thinking “this time is different.”

Talk is cheap. The Democrats have shown time and time and time again that they’re more than happy to virtue signal or tell citizens what they want to hear when election time rolls around but immediately turn their backs on the people when it comes time to govern.

Maybe save the snarky “I told you so” type comments until you can provide more than hollow quotes from a couple of individuals.

Is equating chatbots with AI any different than equating a bunch of if/else statements with AI? Is any of this AI considering none of it involves actual intelligence or informed decision making?

Sure AI is more than LLMs, but those are the face of it in the public’s eye and is what’s driving these trillion dollar corporate valuations, which then lead to every company on earth declaring that their product is “AI!”

I’m a diehard ME fan and completed Andromeda in its entirety and thought it was completely soulless character/story-wise. The gameplay mostly consisted of running back and forth across the map to retrieve items.

The original trilogy had an incredible story and incredible characters. The followup game, not so much. IIRC the studio abandoned the game pretty quick in order to work on their next release which further ruined Andromeda.

Maybe use ESPHome on to run the servo back and forth a few times and have an automation in Home Assistant to trigger the servo when it detects the toilet running. The hard part would probably be getting power near the toilet and connecting the servo to the handle in some fashion.

That’s not something I’ve ever heard of. Here, if you live within a couple miles of the (middle or high) school, there aren’t busses available. We live next to an elementary school and I see kids walking by themselves every single day.

I never understood this or HOAs banning trucks from parking in driveways. These aren’t permanent fixtures of a home so how can it lower the value of a property?

The auto industry in the US is already dominated by foreign brands and has been for quite a long time. It doesn’t make any sense as being the reason because that ship sailed long ago, and as I already described, two of the three remaining US automakers don’t even bother competing in the segment that Chinese EVs operate in, so what US company does it protect apart from Tesla which makes up a whopping 3% of the entire market?
