politics @lemmy.world•Congress Just Snuck In Uber Immunity
12·6 days agoEntrepreneur or private contractor or whatever the case. If the person driving is required to have insurance for being an Uber (they are) and the person driving causes the wreck, then Uber didn’t do anything to get sued over. The driver did. The only ones that should be sued are the driver and their insurance.

politics @lemmy.world•Congress Just Snuck In Uber Immunity
111·7 days agoNot that I’m a fan of uber or anything they do, but the article says it’s essentially prevention from liability if your Uber driver crashes. Uber drivers are required to have their own insurance and stuff. Why should Uber get sued and not the driver if they cause a wreck and you get hurt? Uber didn’t cause it.
Joke has been around longer than the snyder version, but the better punch line is "then the invisible man grabs his ass and yells " what the fuck was that!? " "

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What dumb line/joke may live in your head forever?
12·7 days agoThere was an intentionally bad discovery channel commercial with some Mexicans dressed up as meteors entering earths atmosphere and burning up. Deadpan delivering “aaaahhhhh. The atmospheeeeere. Aaahhhhh”
That just pops into my head every so often. Me and my best friend thought it was hilarious back in the 90’s. Cause it was.

“Oh, I have three kids and no money. Why can’t I have no kids and three money?”

Technology@lemmy.world•Nobody needs AI to search the Internet, court says in ruling against GoogleEnglish
13·7 days agoI work with a bunch of non tech yokels. They 100% for sure do not understand that AI answers must be checked and verified.
I can’t wait till all this shit gets pay walled and 95% of people won’t be using it. I don’t really see Google being willing to just eat the losses on ai search queries forever.

Technology@lemmy.world•Xbox Game Pass Lost "Millions Of Subscribers" After Last Year's 50% Price HikeEnglish
7·7 days agoThere’s a big difference between what a corporation will pay for and cost absorb and some individual paying for an entertainment service is. A shrinking user base that largely relies on “my friends use it, so I have it too” can swing a big pendulum.

Firefox@lemmy.world•Firefox on Android forcefully disables server side AI services on custom ROMs
14·7 days agoSo to anyone who doesn’t know the venture capitalist investment side of AI: All the AI queries from people are kind of expensive as hell. Right now, even with most of the paid for use AI subscriptions many companies have paid for they’re operating at well over an 80% loss. AI is expensive. The game plan has been to keep dumping money into the very net negative revenue stream of AI long enough in order to get corporations, doctors clinics, law offices, software companies, etc so imbedded into using AI that they’ll be forced into absorbing the costs, even at a 10 fold price increase.
That’s the plan. Increase the price by 10 fold over the course of the next several years. It will also push out any smaller businesses from being able to afford to use AI, and stop regular people from having free or low cost AI. It will all be consolidated and expensive, and prevent any new startups in industries that would benefit from AI to afford to get started.
A cess pool.

17·7 days agoIf they lost less than a third of the total, they’re making a lot of money for the short term.
In the long term, they’re fucking themselves into obscurity.
Definitely not. Small Slip at 9. 10 was still pretty good. Then it went to meh.
I went all the way to season 29. Only 1 to 4 good episodes a season after 10.
They became too afraid to be offensive.

Linux@lemmy.ml•HP has become the third premier sponsor of the Linux Vendor Firmware Service (LVFS) and fwupd, joining Dell and Lenovo in contributing $100k+ annually to support firmware updates on Linux.
91·28 days agoThink about it. Right now, windows is a fucking hog of an OS. It takes up huge space, gas huge overhead, and needs huge amounts of ram. Ram and storage are expensive as hell right now.
Linux can run well on a laptop on decade old tech (One of my old laptops is literally from 2016 and runs Linux mint butter smooth).
So by promoting Linux, HP can sell a laptop with less ram and less storage, that doesn’t run like shit. Saves them loads of money. They may not give a flying fuck about Linux. This still helps their bottom line.

5·2 months agoLike bttf 1 and 2 where filmed back to back and then released a year apart from each other. That was ambitious. Nothing based on books or prior proof. They just knew they had such a banger they did 2 movies right out of the gate.

101·2 months agoI figured it would be at least $100. PS5 controllers are like $70, and this has 4 paddles, bigger battery, magnetic charger\high speed dongle, touch sensors, track pads, and the thumb sticks are like 2 generations ahead of sonys.
It’s more like a cheaply priced “pro controller” than an expensive normal controller.

Sweet. Thanks.
I never use browser extension for my pwm anyway. Just the pwm apk on my phone and thats about it. Seems less likely for any shenanigans to happen that way.
