Buy it for Life@slrpnk.net•I am looking for a quality and durable headphone with high audio quality on a budgetEnglish
4·20 days agoI can recommend against getting the Shure SE215s durability wise, mine went back to the factory twice for cable/connector/monitor issues.
I can also say the same about my Isotunes free aware bluetooth ones. They died about a month out of warranty.
Sound wise, I prefer the foam ear tips vs the silicone because I listen in a loud environment. They are both pretty good in that regard. The Isotunes tips fall off after a couple months and need replacement though. They are both noise isolating and the free aware has mics that can allow limited sound through but I turn that feature off because I have not found it to be a quality implementation at all.

4·20 days agoThat era also has good control schemes. I went to replay Perfect Dark on my analogue 3d and hoooooooo boy, those layouts are like wearing beer goggles or trying to ride a reverse handle bar bike. I’ll need to try the dual controller layout but I am considering butchering a cheap controller to make something that matches modern layouts.

12·21 days agoI’ve been on a spree of buying or buying abandoned games or old console games lately and have been really happy with not being online at all, not updating anything I don’t want updated, and paying a reasonable price for the content I got. I don’t care that the graphics are outdated, if the gameplay works and is fun, its fine looking like almost anything.

7·24 days agoYeah, this stuff is basically undigestable except by specific enzymes or processes. In general, you can pretty much just count on it getting smaller and smaller and more bio-reactive and more prevalent in smaller and smaller life/environmental systems unless it’s chemically destroyed/remediation or filtered and removed from the environment.
Just dude’s living in the moment.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the most repairable "thing" you own?
6·1 month agoStrictly speaking here, something that could be fully repaired by the actual tools I have without just swapping for new purchased replacement parts would probably be one of my guitars. I could essentially make every piece of them from scratch if needed except maybe the pots, caps, and truss rod. I could probably repair the truss rod but making one from scratch would be tricky. If I had an acoustic guitar, that would be an easy answer.
It might not turn out well, but I could make it playable again.
I could repair anything on my bike, and kayak. I might be able to rebuild my snes on a component level.
If you allow replacement parts, almost anything can be repaired of you are willing to spend enough on it.

If you work with tools or equipment in any fashion, use proper personal protective equipment and don’t skip it.
If you work around loud noises, use real hearing protection. Hearing loss is irreversible and cumulative.
If you work with anything that makes dust or fumes, get a resparator. You can get nasty allergies from sawdust, griding dust gives you lung cancer and a bunch of other horrible shit.
If you work with chemicals, use gloves or whatever is required per the sds.
Always wear eye protection, you can’t get new eyes.
Take care of your skin, if you weld, wear real covers. Skin cancer on welders is a real thing.
Use gloves where safe, and don’t where you are using rotating equipment, degloving is a thing. Equipment can’t tell the difference between flesh and workpieces and it doesn’t care.
Missing salt, rookie mistake.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex’s crackdown on free remote streaming access starts this week - Ars TechnicaEnglish
1·2 months agoI bought the Emby lifetime license about 2 years ago when the plex remote streaming stuff first started getting talked about. It coincided with my server refresh so it ended up working out. I have been really happy with Emby so far.
One thing to note is that music streaming on remote devices is WAY better on plex, Emby behaves more like a mapped network drive running over the internet to a local music player that then forgets your position on pause or when you move away from the remote app/device whereas Plex is actually functional as a modern music player. I keep a local copy of my music library on my phone anyways and okay through Gonemad so it is a non-issue for me but Emby should work better than it does in that case.
Plex also allows/provides “live” tv (with ads) which can be nice if you are into that, and there is the “free” streaming library too which Emby doesn’t offer. I’ll keep plex around for those features but non-of my stuff is/will be hosted on Plex.
