LocalLLaMA@sh.itjust.works•Your best local LLM for low-VRAM (6GB)?English
6·25 days agoI have a Qwen3.6-35b-a3b model running on a dated desktop machine with 4GB VRAM.
I use 8-bit-quant, but also have 48GB normal RAM.
Delivers ~7tk/s, which is already totally usable for most things.
Tried it on my recent Core-i7 company laptop with 8GB VRAM and got 20tk/s.
Oh, and I am also using KoboldCPP (on a Linux foundation).
Without the hand, it would be at least 20$.
Most common artist mistake: Deciding to add hands.

0·1 month agoWhat is the name of the next progression beyond “Streisand Effect”?
I mean, the one where you not just draw more attention to a published story by forcing to hide it, but the next escalation in stupidity where you en passant create the story in the first place that you try to hide?
Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.detoNews@lemmy.ml•Poll shows more Americans believe in ghosts than support Trump's ballroom
0·1 month agoI was about to make a snark comment about that being not hard in a country like the US, where apparently 39% of people believe in ghosts, just to discover after a quick check that the number is almost as high (29%) in my country.
WTF???
This really leaves me speechless.

0·1 month agoSorry, I am standing hear laughing right now.
With all the insanity and tragic news coming out of the US at the moment, at least there also is some prime comedy in between, like the whole story of that golden Trump phone. Absurdist humour at its peak!
So thanks, it is great to start with a laugh into the day! :-)

World News@lemmy.ml•Europe considering banning VPN for 'children protection'
65·1 month agoIt’s bullshit.
Yes, you are right, it is.
(although the “children can’t buy internet” argument that turns up every time this topics are discussed, is also bullshit).it’s identity verification
Yep, totally. End of anonymous use of the internet is the wet dream of some (primarily conservative) politicians.
But this has not been the point of my comment.
Rather that distributing fake news (“want to ban VPNs”) doesn’t magically become the right thing to do because the cause is a righteous one.

World News@lemmy.ml•Europe considering banning VPN for 'children protection'
6·1 month agoYes, I totally agree with you there.
The more important it is to keep our stuff together and not distribute false facts, as this will just let people think “oh, just another lying clickbait post on lemmy”.
That was the actual point of my comment.

World News@lemmy.ml•Europe considering banning VPN for 'children protection'
109·1 month agoIt doesn’t sound as if they want to ban them, but to introduce age-verification for using VPNs.
Which also would be bad, but not quite so ridiculously insane as your post heading states.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Mullvad seems interesting, I might switch to it.
4·1 month agoThat’s true, but the main reason I occasionally would like to access reddit, is that sometimes relevant search results point to reddit posts.
It’s just Inconvenient, nothing more, at least for reddit.

4·1 month agoSeems you have a typo there, you probably mean “even the sweets”.
That is a valid point you bring up, as it is well known that most soft candies are treated to contain mind-altering nanites since at least the 80s.
It’s the powdery stuff they put on to “avoid sticking”. Sure…

6·1 month agothe VPN ban talk
You mean this here? https://privacyradar.com/news/vpn/eu-vpn-crackdown-age-verification-security-backlash/
In this case, keep in mind that Mullvad is Swedish, and thus based in Europe.
I am using it and am also wondering how potential European anti-VPN-initiatives might affect it.
Regarding my experiences with Mullvad:
Generally not bad, comes with a easy-to-use Linux app that appears to be solid.
Usage of P2P works well for me.
Only issue is that some websites (e.g. reddit) detect it and block access to the public part of their service (at least without login).

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Foreshadowing of Android lockdown
111·1 month agoWere you previously able to update apps you didn’t install from google play through google play lol?
I’m pretty sure not.
Was at least the case for the two apps I have installed that are also listed in the playstore. Didn’t stop google from trying (and then failing, as some certificates didn’t match).
Recognizing that beforehand is actually an improved behaviour.
Overall buyer fees are unfortunately quite high in Germany, can be up to ~10% of the property price. Add to that the fact that houses or flats are generally more expensive than in the States, you quickly have additional costs of 50000€ or more (would be roughly the same in $) even for a small estate, which you can not cover by the credit, but have to pay in liquid cash.
This is a major hurdle for many and a likely part of the reason why so many people live in rented apartments here instead of buying.

Thanks a lot!
Just activated it, and a short test on two of the news sites I visit regularly confirmed it to be working! :-)
