I minimize plastics use, recycle anything that can be, reuse/renew whenever possible, minimize all use of products dangerous to the environment/ecosystems, educate myself on the issues and candidates and then vote in every election, volunteer for political campaigns, I educate my children about the environment (including what we do to minimize our impact and why it’s a problem at all) and politics (including the importance of voting, how to research candidates and issues). Yes, there is more I could do, but I think I do a pretty good amount–far above the average. My kids won’t blame me, even if the memes blame my generation.

I wouldn’t go out of my way to make older generations feel bad because that isn’t solving anything, but I would educate them so that maybe their votes will be better going forward.

  • My wife’s rabbit (from before we were married) used to nudge me to stack his blocks. When I started, he’d trot in a circle around the living room. When I had finished, he’d go from stack to stack knocking them over. We’d do that a bunch. When was bored of that, he’d lay down near me and require me to rub him. He had things going the way he liked them. He absolutely would have been excited to have a rug and a whole area devoted to him and his stuff.

  • Is 20 enough? How tiny are your cats? I feel like 45 (a big weight lifting plate) might not be enough. Might need to screw the stand on a 36"*36" piece of plywood and put 20 on every corner. I guess it depends on the size and weight of your tree, though. 25 years ago we had a cat climb nearly to the top of a 10-12’ tree (seemed like 12, but maybe just seems like that now). Anyway, the cat didn’t just stay on the trunk and we had to make adjustments to prevent a tip. Think we switched stands to something more heavy duty.
