Oh, they are absolutely dedicated to each other, he adores my mom and she loves him fiercely but he is just not willing to consider a will and face his mortality. It’s common, honestly. I am going to be doing a full court press on the matter this coming year. Mom is in her 80’s and is in good health, they both are - but still.
My mom is in a similar boat.
She’s been in Hawaii for decades, living with a guy and they’re not married and she’s not on the will for the property that he owns - even though she’s paid the taxes for it on and off over the years…
I have asked her why he can’t set that up to take care of her if anything happens to him and it’s just that he’s lazy and thinks - like a lot of people do - that he’s going to last forever.
I worry about it, and mention it often but the answer is always the same.
Am like WTF mom, he’s no spring chicken - neither are you - what ARE you two thinking?

WRT the medical, it’s more about getting the person to the point of introspection about their choices of who to belive and follow the politics of.
MOST MAGA folks are in need of a single-payer since they don’t have good enough paying jobs to purchase insurance policies through their work (if it’s offered) that have deductibles and co-pays they can afford. The truth of the matter is that the country has let insurers themselves dictate the conversations around access and affordability - as if! - they and they alone have the answers.
Well… I suppose the public could give them back the food they ate, after they ate it… but it would be smelly…
I think the play was 100% Mike Johnson going “Let’s not swear in the newest Democratic Representative from Arizona and prevent the Epstein Files from being released in full…” and him teling the Republican GOP congressmen to leave went further than he expected, and rolled into the ACA tax subsidy collapse and then the SNAP fiasco.
The congressmen are just as blind as the rest of conservative, middle-class America as to how large the demographc of white Americans on welfare really is.

At this point, you can work on them to bring it all into focus and the FIRST thing I always say is “you gotta get away from the billionaire controlled cable TV and social media sites…” then I point them to the vanilla news sites that have no editorializing, like AP and Reuters.
If they are open to it, I also point them to using Firefox and adding uBO. Given that sites like fb are now running rage-bait scam ads, the ad-blocking is critical.
A lot of the MAGA folks have been overwhelmed by the noise.
You can access pages that are still actively behind any given site’s paywall.
That’s what shocked me last No Kings protest. I saw tons of older folks and even some people I know are die-hard conservative Republicans with signs out in the middle of town.
Things are worse than Trump and the beltway oligarchs know. Gilded fishbowls and all that.
Apparently this is closer to the truth than people know. Trump is so simple-minded that he has his morning briefs presented to him in video form with bullet points that contain simplified explanations. Also lots of AI chaff is put in front of him, like Portland on fire and reduced to a smoldering heap, people eating dogs and cats and angry kids assaulting ICE agents and being violently taken down. Anyone not recall the pictures of Kilmar Garcia’s hands with the obviously shittily Photoshopped MS13 letters on the knuckles? Tie bad eyesight to simpleminded, drug and age related mental decline and well… here we are.
Was on Reddit from 2009 until a month ago and it really went to shit - beyond the API meltdown - when the IPO dropped. A ton of system changes and the algorithm super-charging the rage-bait subs and of course the 'bots.
AND - which I noticed, at some point in 2024, they quietly locked down older posts (beyond the nornal archived ones) and made it so users even, could not scroll down into their comment history and pull up really old content. Comments older than 12 months disapeared and can only be found if they’d been saved.
Right now, I’m only keeping my reddit account active (even though I’m banned) because I can still access the saved content I liked.
May be pulling a lot of that, esp. the tech stuff over here after the new year…
Reality is crashing in and with the number of these folks on assistance that Trump has cut, it’s only going to get worse.
My prediction is that if you still see a die-hard Trumper like in the photo, it’s actually someone wealthy that’s cosplaying.
The majority of Trump supporters generally don’t have two pennies to rub together, and given what’s going on in DC right now, they probably don’t have that anymore and they’re pissed…
My Alex Jones listening co-worker claimed I had TDS. He was all big on Trump as the Epstein Files were gonna be released, the economy was going to have all the factories returned to America,food would be cheaper…
I just bit my tongue and said nothing.
Now, with his wife’s medical needs so severe that he’s got almost nothing left at the end of each month, he says to me “How come we can’t get an affordable medical system that covers everyone completely…” to which I said, “Well, we could have that and be like every other civilized nation on Earth, but that’s ‘socialism’ after all and we can’t have that… I mean isn’t that what your right wing radio says?”
He’s gotten awfully silent about lots of that stuff now and I mentioned Epstein files being not released and he lost his shit over it. I told him that there was no more “deep state” it was the State now, and is right there in Washington DC and in your face. He is no longer disagreeing with that assessment.
I think that the reality of the situation is breaking through the Trump Delusion Syndrome a lot of these die-hards had and they are starting to see what really is going on and they’re pissed and silently fuming about it now.
My co-worker took the vinyl “1776” stickers with the tattered flag backgrounds off of his truck and lost all his Trump swag as well.
Musk stated not too long ago, he felt empathy was a weakness of western society.
