Fuck AI@lemmy.world•AI is mostly a novelty, a heavily subsidized toy that produces little more than distraction [Cory Doctorow]
59·4 days agoWhat is novelty though? It can be used to shortcut your development time, your documentation time, your presentation preparing time, that’s a shit ton of stuff that developers/office workers do.
I think making false narratives is not how you fight AI, you fight for regulation on Data center water use, noise pollution, then let the cost bankrupt the companies that need to go bankrupt.
Although maybe this is just one of those communities that wants to endlessly circlejerk around an issue.

Technology@lemmy.world•Remote workers report the highest well-being in study of 7,700 employees: while those who worked entirely onsite reported the lowest.English
43·5 days agoI feel like this is a pretty useless study, this is going to be entirely subjective what you prefer. Optionality gives a lot of upside, more than either extreme.
Personally I prefer being in the office, better for my focus, my likely (undergoing diagnosis) ADHD as fuck brain, but I also have dynamic work hours so I can simply avoid peak traffic.
That being said, if I was required to be in the office everyday at a set time e.g 9 to 5 I would fucking quit.

Yes, I thought of ISO-8601
You would have a point, but they don’t actually speak my Native language as I am of Hungarian descent and that’s my mother’s tongue.
I also spent 10 years in Czechia both studied there then worked there for a few years.
So I can compare, I’d say definitely Czechia > Slovakia, it’s just that my family is in Slovakia.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Why people Pirate?English
18·13 days agoFun fact: in my country (Slovakia) it’s totally legal to download things. It’s the uploading it back that’s seen as illegal, so as long as you have a paid private torrent site where you can hit’n’run you are not breaking any laws.
Yeah I will start learning oil changes, will be useful for my EV
I don’t, my day us shifted, so I commute later, instead of like an hour and a half my commute is 50 minutes (which is still a lot for a European) but in exchange I live in my hometown
I feel like there are various pieces of cinema pointing out why this is very fucking problematic

That’s literally the first time I heard that hungarian version, that’s not what we use, we use “az isten háta mögött” which is “behind gods back” to refer to places in bumfuck nowhere
Adding oil is a great way to lubricate your pasta so the sauce won’t stick to it…
Not sure if you are aware, but there are countries that exist outside the US. Were you by any chance terminated from your job as a Geography teacher? i can see why

Yes, all interactions are the same, and there is no place for nuance, how could I forget this, apologies

Also 70K net or gross is quite a big difference.
Also me not having kids and commuting using an EV that’s charged at almost entirely by solar/nuclear means I am well below that threshold.
Where I live district heating also comes from geothermal heat.
