Overseas News@aussie.zone•Dubai's 'cringe' influencers have a new rule: Don't mention the warEnglish
5·1 天前Traditional media is heavily regulated in the UAE, but these days everyone — not just journalists — has been put on notice.
After the war erupted, authorities announced that people who shared misinformation or even something that “results in inciting panic among people” could be prosecuted. Only officially verified information is safe to post.
This tough, arbitrary edict effectively means the country’s government gets to decide what is and is not true.

10·6 天前I can see people not realizing the LLM autocomplete was an LLM. But not the prompting.
And even then, that’s some fancy ass autocomplete if it’s not LLM powered…

Technology@lemmy.zip•Downdetector and Speedtest have been sold for over $1 billionEnglish
15·6 天前Thank you! It’s divination in my opinion.
Speed test is whatever. I’m always suspicious that they have deals with certain ISPs to make the numbers look better than they are. It would be easy to do, and then just roll out the true cliche about “not every website or server will or can max out your connection.” Etc.

95·18 天前So I should be able to go down to my local GameStop and write the same sorts of things on game boxes and put up signs saying the same things?
That’s speech too.
Just because this is digital, it does not give a pass IMO. These are private spaces still. They are not administered by the public.

Programming@programming.dev•I Started Programming When I Was 7. I'm 50 Now and the Thing I Loved Has ChangedEnglish
31·28 天前Aww you’re no fun. Stop with the nuance.
Often times people are incorrect about specifics, but correct or valid in the point they were attempting to make.
It’s obnoxious to deal with analytical or biased people who can never look past the surface level.
I noticed a little over a decade ago that there was an uptick in discourse over conspiracy theories and a muddying of the waters around them. And it became clear to me that there was an upside for those participating in secret dealings to foment more and more conspiracy talk etc. The more noise, the better.
I feel like the Epstein files release confirms the vibe I got. The right really does want everyone stupid and confused. 4chan, Reddit, and later Joe Rogan and X are all tools in this effort.
