If we remove just 1 county from each state, Trump would have won.

Yeah, the more people you disenfranchise, the easier it is for fascists to gain power. That being said, this is sort of like saying, “The USA would be Republican if it weren’t for New York and California!”

Guess you can do the same exercise with Hilary Clinton in the 2016 election. Select some key counties and turn on the election. Pretty stupid exercise, for a pretty stupid election system.

When I first saw the blog post title, I assumed 2016 was where this was headed. Alas, my mind is tired of hearing of equality when there are people sleeping on the sidewalk and when swing-state and small-state Americans get an outsize role in running the place.

      • Well we got universal healthcare a livable minimum wage public housing world class education and enough beaches that you would die before u visit them all assuming u see 1 every single day. Id say its working far better than ur system that seems to resemble a 3rd would country more every day.

You’d die before visiting all the beaches because sharks and irukandji will kill you in the first few. Failing that, the drop bears will get you in between beaches.

They get fed to the sharks. That’s why you so rarely hear of shark attacks. A well fed shark is a safe shark.

Perhaps, if the participation goes down another smidgen, they can also do something about the scourge of drop bears!

Didn’t know the pollies were hard at work creating beaches… That’s a hot take.

From an external perspective, the aus political forum looks like a shitshow. Look at your pm count over the last 20 years as an example. US is no different.

That’s because Canberra is itself a shithole, you muppet. If I’m homeless with a choice, I’m going north.

three things: Australia has had a couple good PMs in the last 20 years - kevin rudd, for example.

but more importantly, in Australia, they don’t vote for the PM. They vote for the party, and the party picks the PM. And changes it as need be. Just like the US doesn’t vote for the secretary of the treasury, or the transport guru (whatever they’re called). The party assigns roles.

lastly, shit PMs is what Australia gets when it keeps voting in the Republican wannabe party.

The difference is the balance of power thanks to preferential / ranked voting.

    Yeah, like. There it is.

Sometimes I wish we had county level polling days, other-times, i’m glad we can’t analyze things this granularly.

Sheesh folks it’s not like I like this system or that man or his opponent or that the electoral college laughs last or that the popular vote win was pretty big but could have easily been undone again.

    Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia.

Isn’t that where all the fake electors came from and where TheOrange wanted to find just 11,780 votes?
