Donald Trump has wasted no time making his mark in his first week back in office, signing executive orders, delivering speeches and outlining his plans. Meanwhile, the Democrats are still absorbing their election loss in November and trying to chart a path forward. But despite the prevailing view that they are in trouble, their situation may not be as dire as it seems.
I didn’t want to have to read this, but no one summarized it. So here’s a summary.
- The Dems picked up seats in the House.
- The Democrats lost four Senate seats. Three of those were in states that were solidly red for a long time.
- In high level state elections, nothing changed.
- It wasn’t that bad . They really only lost the presidency which is probably Biden’s fault.
And now my retort.
- They picked up two seats. In doing so, they failed to control the House buy 3 seats. In 2022, they lost 9. In 2020, they lost 13. It was only in 2018 that they won a ton of seats: 42. MAybe this is a good omen for 2026, but we have to worry about today.
- Who gives a fuck. Like honestly? The failings of the Republicans to be able to flip a seat in 2018, the last time these seats were up, is not an indicator that you had your shit together.
- I don’t know how you consider this a good thing. Are you playing for the win or just not to lose?
- “Other than that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?” Jeez … There’s been a lot wrong with the Dems for a while, but pretending that losing the presidency isn’t one of the worst things that can happen to them is silly. They continually failed to secure power in multiple branches and at multiple levels because at the heart of their game was the presidency.
I also think his conclusion on why Biden lost is wrong. I think people wanted the ambitious projects that the Biden administration offered. They failed in messaging it, they failed to connect with the worries of average families as inflation soared, or with young people as rent skyrocketed and we sent bombs to Israel. So many things went wrong for Biden at the end including a prolong decline into mental difficulties. When the Dems had a chance to distance themselves from all that, they picked someone wasn’t able to do it. She lacked the ability to connect with the real concerns of people at an emotional level. Heck, I don’t think people wanted Trump, but they didn’t see a better option. Just more of the same.

Democrats are worthless Nazi enablers.
They are playing nice with a party acting in bad faith.
The Democrats have to please their rich donors.
It was never about helping their voters, just appearing as if they wanted to help was enough.
People are waking up to the fact that the Dems are as fucking useless as the Republicans.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.
So either they are malicious in their mistreatment of their voter base and America by letting Trump go scott free for 4 years, or they’re stupid.
Either way, why would I put my faith into them?

They haven’t been hurt at all. They’re currently still working alongside overt fascists. Still collecting those paychecks and paypoffs from capital. Dems probably better of with Trump. That’s why they run genocidal losing candidates.
I will be shocked if the Democrats learn anything from the last election. I fully expect the next election (assuming we even have one) that they’ll be running on the exact same right of center platform that they’ve been using for the last few decades. The only way they win elections at this point is if Trump fucks up the economy enough that a significant chunk of his previous supports make protest votes against him. Odds of that happening are not great.
They certainly did learn something. Something very, very important… to them. They learned that by moving far enough right they could rake in huge piles of money from the donor class that wants to keep progressives under heel. That’s what they learned.
Let’s be honest, they learned that in 2016.
I will be shocked if the Democrats learn anything from the last election.
We’ll have a pretty good indicator in a couple days when the party elects its chair.
Uh…they’re not just wounded, they are straight up dead.
They aren’t wounded - they just don’t have actual values or strategy beyond bullying people to vote for them.
They definitely should be wounded and if they’re not then they’ve learned nothing.
