its true
Hey I leave comments. And half decent ones at that!
fine i’ll post more
Yeah. I’ve tried to get outta my comfort zone and post more often. Sometimes I don’t have the energy and just btowse for days though.
Could you collect data and show us a chart?
Don’t forget the spambots
pretty standard for forums.
And? Small community, big heart, I say.
I’m pretty sure Picard Maneuver is lemmy’s main character
I ship stamets and kolanki.
I’m always looking for their comment on every popular post 😂
In addition to the 1% rule that Blaze mentioned, there is the concept of tribes. Lemmy/MBin have fostered a tribal culture. Those that don’t follow in line with that culture are more fringe and as a result receive a different ratio of up votes to downvotes. It helps people find their place in our tribe, but it can also be off putting and result in a sort of self-exile.
I’m not saying this limitation is good or bad. I personally find the views here refreshing even if I don’t always agree with them. To me, it’s a comfortable little microcosm of the human experience. But it is just that, a microcosm.
If you want more people to contribute, we either have to evangelize and recruit and/or celebrate a more open culture.
Right now it feels more like the beginnings of Reddit. My concern is if we make a goal to get bigger, we’ll also fall into the trappings of current Reddit.
Great points and well said. Lemmy needs small community tools to really be a open platform for everyone
- unlisting a small community from all
- only allowing subscribers to vote on small communities
- posting requirements for small communities (account must be x old, have x votes, have some voting ratio, etc)
We need safe spaces for everyone.
Is there anywhere or any way you can recommend to get rid of US politics in my feed? Seems like theres a lot of that (I don’t mind a little but not every second post)
What Blaze said, or make sure your on an instance that suits your interests and rely on Local tab as the filter.
Be it Nation (like myself at aussie zone), or special interests (like the instance “vegan theory club”). These instances Local feeds are very different from All Lemmy, and days often go by without any passing referal involving US politics.
It doesn’t mean you can’t participate in the All tab discussions trending across the Lemmy instances, but it does mean your own Lemmy instance provides a kind of safe harbour, or comfortable place to retreat to when the trending posts get too much.
Thank you for the reply! I will take a look around
Just block a lot for communities.
And a filters using https://lemmy.world/post/24545370
Wow - this is awesome thank you
There are dozens of power users but I think there are some users that are encountered frequently in some places, particularly in communities that are local to the user. It would be neat to know if I have any notoriety at all. I’m easiest to spot on lemmy.ca communities if anywhere.
I’ve noticed a handful of users become active, inactive and active again, whether it’s life stuff or whether they got temp banned. I won’t provide any examples because I don’t want to make this about someone’s personal life.
This place never needs to be as big as reddit, just the fact there is a “stream” of users posting and commenting makes Lemmy feel alive. It was much quieter when I first joined (a few months prior to the creation of Lemmy.world), there might have 10-20 new posts a day on the whole site. I’m happy with it.
40? There’s one guy with multiple accounts.
It’s all one guy. Giant guy in outer space!
More like giant squid. Who happens to be flying. Occasionally he forgets to change accounts before posting.
I post randomly and without logic to confuse the sand worms.

Ive found that any george strait style waltz beat throws off the graboids completely.
For all you know, they can fly.
