Btw, I wasnt looking for an anti facebook community to post this but i guess this is kind of perfect, lol.

I guess we can probably mostly agree Facebook’s system of emoji reactions is annoying, but also that the users of Facebook use it to dismiss, mock and ridicule anything serious, tragic or important by quickly reacting with the laughing emoji before anyone else can react with something else.

And then what I’m really mind boggled about is Facebook’s decision to make it so that if there’s been one emoji reaction of a certain type (like laughing emoji), anyone else who tries to like it or react with something else after that just adds to the count of that emoji reaction.

In practice, let’s say there’s a post about a lost person for example. Someone comments “This person is a really kind soul, I hope nothing bad happened to them and they turn out alright.” Trolls react with the laughing emoji. And then genuine people who would want to like, express support for or promote that comment can’t do so without increasing the number that displays next to how many people are mocking and ridiculing the comment like a sadist… and appearing to do the same thing. It creates a dilemma to either not like/support the comment, or to like/support it even though doing so also contributes to the comment appearing to be widely mocked. What a stupid system!

Facebook has many problems, including the one you described, but toxic emojis don’t seem that important when compared to misinformation running wild and the algorithm itself promoting toxicity, because that keeps you on the site
