Turkish doner I made from ground pork. Grilled onions with cheddar and sour cream topping. Side of rice.
Cost per person, $2.05
Man, basmati rice with cumin seed is so good.
Cheap and tasty. I buy cumin seeds a liter at a time. Essential for Indian and Mexican cooking.
I love them, but no one else in the house does. Bunch of non-flavor-liking dullards I live with. So I have my own jug (I think it’s a liter) in my office along with the rice. Just make it for myself.
I gotta try that out. I love eating basmati rice and cumin seeds
Just saying, this is hardly turkish or a döner if you make it with pork. Big haram
Absolutely. But the seasonings and method is Turkish. Pork is all I had on hand. No haram issues in this house.
What seasoning and method did you use? I’m always looking for good spice mixes!
Cummin powder, red pepper, granulated garlic, granulated onion, paprika, salt.
I just eyeballed things. Probably no more than a half a teaspoon of anything and a pinch of the rest for a pound of ground pork.
Toss it all in a bowl with an egg, mix by hand. Lay parchment paper in a sheet pan, put the mix on that. Put another piece of parchment paper on top and roll it into an even flat sheet.
Bake at 390f for 30 minutes.
Remove the top shee and cut it into ribbons.
Cool. Thank you!
At this point you’ve made a souvlaki
Not quite the same. That’s more like meatballs on a stick. This is more like gyros meat, pressed flat and then cooked so you can layer it.
I just assumed it was made on a trompo or my experience was stacking a bunch of thighs into a smol loaf pan and baking it.
Smashed flat between two sheets of parchment paper and baked.
Oh! Nice! yes I’ve seen this one. Haven’t tried it.
Turkish doner with pork
That looks delicious! Did you use any sauce in it?
Also where is cat pics?
After cooking the onions I mixed sour cream and cheddar in the pan with them until melted. That was my sauce.
This is Papita, mother of three of our other orange girls. I’m not allowed to touch her. Only my wife can do that.

That sounds lovely in a Ukraine kind of way
That perfect orange M on her forehead!
That looks so wildly tasty. Curse you for making me see this when I’m still waiting on food!
I am going through what’s in the house and trying to figure out meals. This started with the knowledge that I had exactly half a cup of basmati rice left and some ground pork in the chest freezer. I’m wondering what I’ll discover next.
