Hey guys! Just started degoogle and its a fun experience! I’m found out that Nebula was made as a oficial alternative to Youtube made by creators against Youtube alghoritm. You guys think its a valid choice? I’m considering using it on GrayJay. What you guys think?

    well idk. They don’t have the content monopoly yt has and isn’t it paid? Also, PeerTube is the Fediverse alternative. So basically what Lemmy is to Reddit, PeerTube is to YouTube. And if you are ok with watching YouTube but just don’t want the surveillance, you should use NewPipe or PipePipe.

      I actually want to get rid of youtube. The only thing still keeping me on YT tbh its games trailers. There was a channel on peertube that used to upload games trailers but it was abandoned :(

        I wish people would just download from youtube, upload to peertube, and share the peertube link as a matter of course when they want to share videos. It adds a few steps, but you’d save a lot of people from having to deal with that hellsite.

          ahem… legal issues? Copyright? You can’t just do that. Also, creators would earn less loney from ads and therefore possibly stop making the videos.

            @xxxb

            Uploading a video to youtube doesn’t copyright it, and most Youtube videos are second-hand content anyway.

            Edit: I thought I’d be a little more helpful and provide an example. Look at all the CNN videos on this YT channel, the operators of which I’m pretty sure do not own the copyright: https://youtube.com/@american.bulletin

            Just saying that if american_bulletin can rip & post CNN videos, then there’s no reason fediversians shouldn’t be able to rip and post american_bulletin’s rip of CNN to peertube.

              just because others break the law it is not okay to break the law. Sure, I do use adBlocker and download music from yt for myself, but I am not fine with breaking the law.
