Dyson has launched a new electric toothbrush that features a “100k pixel macro lens camera,” allowing users to “see what their dentist sees.”
And of course, in no way shares or sells that information. Right???
Funny you bring that up because Dyson made the first robot vacuum cleaner that does all the AI and computation locally - none of your data going to the cloud and it’s a major selling point
Had a look at that, seems like a sort of nope. The ai may be local, but it is still phoning home.

“The robot collects different types of data necessary for operation and service improvement, as outlined in our Privacy Policy. Any data transmitted between the robot’s sensors and our services is encrypted to help ensure customers’ information remains completely secure.”
Although they hid it really well. it’s the last line of the last question about data collection.

From Dyson? The shittiest company out there IMO when it comes to their product lines, it’s like apple but their products are flimsy crap from an engineering perspective (at least apple has solid hardware).
Who would you rank #1 for robot vacuum and similar products, considering the data harvesting in your assessment?

Valetudo is a custom software, not a hardware provider. Does Henry make robovacs?
10 years ago it was Miele for classic vacuums. Today? Who knows. Robot vacuums? I have no idea, sorry, probably a FOSS DIY.
AFAIK there’s one good fully open source DIY project but they haven’t finished building the first unit yet

This is a shame, it could actually be wildly useful thing, generating a 3D model of your teeth and gum and oral health.
I bet that in the future this (type of thing, not the crap from dyson) will be a tool we all use, and not just the dentist.
Going to a dentist a couple times a year is enough. Nobody needs daily dental surveillance.
This is the type of thing that gives people a false sense of doing something. We know what we need for good oral health: brush and floss, avoid sugars.
For young people this is probably true, but when you get older gum health and related problems quickly gets into the top 5 of health concerns.
I also know loads of young people who don’t go to the dentist twice a year, but I guess that’s another story.
It’s an endoscope. Good idea. Looks like video feed is local only? If so, “surveillance” is pure clickbait.
