Another birdie post to celebrate World Animal Day and that all songbirds originated in Australia!

The article is written by a musician and includes recordings of exquisite birdsong so you can feel what it does to your body and mind. Singing medicine!

It revealed that all songbirds originated in Australia, before spreading across the world.

This is an interesting snippet of information. Although, the abstract of the article it links to seems to suggest New Zealand rather than Australia; and given we’re talking far enough back Australia is part of a supercontinent, it’s perhaps a moot point exactly which country that would be today - might as well say Australia if we’re talking to an Australian audience, right?

    Nevertheless, still interesting.

You know what we’re like here in Oz, we like to adopt NZ stuff and say it’s our own! 😆

EDIT: And the article does say

early songbirds radiated out from Gondwana – the ancient supercontinent that included Australia, Antarctica and South America.

      so even broader than NZ.
