• Gallery posts, which is an image post with multiple images in it, compatible with Mastodon and Pixelfed. Check out this example from Mastodon.

  • “Reposters” as a separate thing from “Bots” with the same Show and Hide options for filtering that bots have. Reposters are more targeted, with higher quality content than true bots and often have a human operator writing comments. However many people find this inauthentic so now they can be filtered out. More details

  • /c/microblogs can show posts from people you’re following OR all posts.

  • Recent hashtags shown on the home page sidebar.

  • Support for receiving posts with jpegxl images.

  • Communities can have a default hashtag for new posts - posters can edit or remove it if they want.

For admins:

  • Option to manually approve posts by new accounts, to cut down on spam while having open registrations (no approval on the new account). This will let people dip their toes in without waiting.

  • Easily contact other instance admins, see /admin/instances

  • Vote manipulation detection tools for simple sockpuppets and complex coordinated voting networks. See /admin/voting

  • Serial downvoter report showing who made lots of downvotes against a single person in a short time.

  • Other bot detection tools - e.g. easily spot unnatural runs of very quick post creation.

  • Display list of alts on user profiles to more easily investigate activity by alts.

  • Filter emoji with keywords rather than importing absolutely everything - this will speed up the emoji reaction dialog.

  • Identify instances likely to be used by spammers in future. See /admin/instances?filter=liability

  • Microblog posts with no replies can be automatically deleted - set the MICROBLOG_CONTENT_RETENTION environment variable to how many months you want to keep them for.

The multi-image posts is a huge upgrade, but it’s a bummer that I gotta pick them one at a time instead of ctrl + shift in file explorer

        Maybe some day? :>

still a pretty worthy upgrade though ❤️ Wish people on lemmy could see the galleries, or maybe people on lemmy should also just all move to piefed, now there’s an idea

Amazing thanks!! now I can set c/SouthAfrica to have “South Africa” tagged by default to it gets more visibility to the ~1,000,000 active mastodon users

Nice update, and about that-- I’ve typically tried to keep media in image posts to about 500k or less, and for gallery posts, will do the same unless that’s an issue.

Tried my first gallery post just now. I really like how the finished post is presented as a ‘split’ of the images.

I would suggest however (assuming it’s possible?) is to not automatically lay out the full ten potential gallery posts. Those are just tiresome to scroll through, particularly if one only wants to post like 1-4 items. Particularly when one does a post-edit.

So maybe just present the next image option in the chain if you previous one has been specified, if you follow me?

There’s also the possibility for the user (like on Imgur), to CTRL-click or SHIFT-click across a range of images, thereby uploading them all at once. Rather than tediously doing it for each one, he suggested respectfully.

Yes, that would be much better. I thought of that when I was making it but decided to do it in a future version, to get 1.8.0 out the door sooner.

This sounds cool. Could an admin still be notified when a new account is created so we can flag the account as approved before they ever even try to post/comment?

This can be done by editing their account in the admin area and un-ticking the “Manually approve posts” checkbox. It’s clunky - perhaps if there was an action to do this on their comments or at /admin/users without needing to edit their profile - that would be smoother.

Do we still get notifications that new users have signed up if we have registration applications disabled?

No but if you go to /admin/users then filter by ‘Local’ then sort by ‘Created’ you’ll see all the latest joiners.
