You’re still dependent on Adobe if you use a clone of their software which has been cleanroom reverse engineered and re-implemented. And then it needs to happen all over again when Adobe releases a new version. It’s just a Rube Goldberg way of getting Photoshop and the clone is probably a buggy mess.

If you get enough people to move to the clone, that stops being true though. The clone gets to decide the direction from that point onwards.
It’s not a copy of adobe’s code, it’s all new code that’s simply implements the same features. So Adobe releasing a new version won’t have any effect.
