I fuck with this hard. I always pick weird foods when I go to a new restaurant, stuff that I don’t know what I’m getting, and if it’s bad I eat it, if it’s good I eat it.
I live with the consequences, and as a consequence of that, I have found some amazing meals and foods that I never would have eaten if I hadn’t experimented.
Not specifically. A classic Pee-Wee trope was to eat something and say, “Mmm… [something]-y!” According to Paul Reubens’ posthumous biography, it was a gag that he got from his first and only serious boyfriend.
my amazing surprise recommendation doesn’t seem that crazy but the summer before last a new ice cream parlor opened up next to my favorite sushi place and i decided i’d get a little treat after my lunch. i had the wild idea of making not a rootbear float nor an orange creamsicle float but a bizarre fruity bastardization float with rainbow sherbet in this locally bottled lime soda. it looked radioactive and tasted like an industrial disaster but, like, in a good way.
To be fair the sushi place also does some hibachi dishes and noodles, and what i had gotten that time was this fancy ramen they do. I remember it only because that was the day I saw superman 2025 and i really loved that movie ;3
Not a restaurant but I feel like I’ve tried about everything from the fridge or pantry on a peanut butter sandwich.
Banana fluffernutter is as awesome as it sounds. Pickles are weird but not exactly bad. Jellybeans are kinda good, or maybe I’m weird. Peanut butter pepperoni is surprisingly good. But I especially love savory applications of peanuts (like OMG a good satay) so what you should really try is curry powder and a fried egg with scallions on your PB sandwich.
Normally at Vietnamese restaurants I’d always get a bahn mi, hard to go wrong with a delicious tasty sandwich, but I decided to try the pho.
Pho is a soup made with raw meat in hot broth. It looked mildly unappetizing when I first got it, but it was one of the best meals I’d ever had in my life.
Maybe it’s more commonplace now, but where I lived, there was only one Vietnamese restaurant in like a 20 mile radius, so it was completely new to me.
Also, Egyptian food, I found a place called kebab in Portland when I was driving through on vacation one year, and I stopped there because they said they serve Egyptian food and I’ve never had Egyptian food. The food I picked was called chicken kusharia.
It was grilled chicken with a tamarind sauce on top of a bed of rice and a slightly crunchy chickpeas. The dish had the aroma of patchouli, which is not something I associate with food.
It was an experience. From the very first bite, it was like I was very present in the moment. Each and every single bite had a new flavor, a new twist to it. There was like lemon juice and lime juice and side salad and one of the best hummus sides I’ve ever had in my life.
If I just stuck with plain, ordinary fast food because I was on vacation, I never would have gotten to experience that.
how i came to love drinking Guinness. The first drink was nasty but by the time i finished the second there were aspects of the flavor that i couldn’t detect earlier that suddenly came through, and i’ve enjoyed it ever since.
One time hanging out with my dear friend at the mall she said “I wanna go to the cheesecake factory. Its not very good, but sometimes I want bad food, ya know?”
It was in the shopping center and I had never been, so bewildered and curious I agreed. The food was fucking abysmal. I don’t think I’ve ever had worse restaurant food honestly.
Their artichoke is good. Maybe the only great thing there but it’s so good I learned to make it at home, even though it’s an enormous pain in the ass to make.
Yeah I like trying weird foodstuff and recipes at least once and I hate wasting food. so if it’s something I don’t like I’ll just finish it because it’s wasteful otherwise.

“How’s everything tasting, folks?”
“… like I got what I deserved 😑”
“It’s exactly what I ordered, thanks. 😵💫”
Was at a restaurant with a friend years ago. He had salad and they came to the table and asked “how is the salad?”
His answer: leafy.
You’re friends with Pee-Wee Herman?
Is that something Pee-Wee said?
Not specifically. A classic Pee-Wee trope was to eat something and say, “Mmm… [something]-y!” According to Paul Reubens’ posthumous biography, it was a gag that he got from his first and only serious boyfriend.
Ah, got it. 🙂
the joker when he has to eat a custard pie
2nded. I usually don’t
trysample ice cream flavours, I just pick something new. If it sucks, it sucks, whatever.Me neither, I just pick chocolate. I related hard to Troi.
Last week I was drinking rum and rasberry flavoured pepsimax. I didn’t buy the mixer but it was the only cola we had. It was not good.
Any amazing recommendations? Anything horrible to avoid? I would love to hear your experiences

This comment has the synesesthetic flavor of Skittles and type 2 diabetes
…ladies
good work, I was terrified for the rest of the comment after you mentioned sushi right after ice cream

Solid and timely film!!

Just get the regular eggs Benedict. The California benedict adds nothing.
Always pick the scariest thing on the menu.
Unless it’s fugu and you don’t have 110% confidence in the chef 😁
If I remember correctly most deaths in Japan happen because the deceased went to a restaurant that sells fugu liver which is illegal in Japan.
Also I’ve tried fugu before. It’s expensive and definitely not worth it over regular sushi.
Most fugu-related deaths in Japan or the majority of ALL deaths in Japan? 😉
Im pretty sure its some type of disease that kills us the most. Not some obscure ass food ingredient.
I’ll try anything twice.

That’s what my partner says!

I live with the consequence of buying two drinks, usually. Maybe not with $45 meals.
This is such a good idea but I think my picky autistic palette wouldn’t be able to handle it :(
That’s totally fine. Do what works best for you.
Yeah I like trying weird foodstuff and recipes at least once and I hate wasting food. so if it’s something I don’t like I’ll just finish it because it’s wasteful otherwise.
Well, yes and no. It’s good to order new food! But if you gave it a fair chance and still don’t like it then you shouldn’t force it down your throat
