Mullvad donated some money to a Neo-N@zi party. To me, umless if they keep doing this, it doesn’t feel too important, as long as they keep their products up and going. What does it mean to you? Your opinion could change my mind
I kind of like this post specifically when it comes to Mullvad. I’m realizing that I don’t care about them. I simply like their product. If their politics, their product or whatever else gets bad, I can just switch providers. In this specific case it doesn’t matter what they believe. If anything about them gets too bad I can just switch.
Now, since VPN companies are a topic that should be researched carefully there will be a high cost to switching. One’s gotta know who to trust. And so far I have trusted Mullvad, because of the positive reception about how they treat their customer’s data. Nothing more, nothing less.

If you’re the target of the neo-nazis, or you have enough empathy to care about people who are their target, of course it matters. Wtf are you on?
Reading the comments, because I was corrius about what was happening. Sounds like one of the developers donated to a Nazi organization, which reminds me of the statement “you are at a club, resterant, party, or whatever sitting at a table with some friends and a Nazi sits down even if you and your friends are not nazis you are now sitting at the nazi table.” Does not matter if one of their developers is a nazi or if all of their developers are nazis they are still the nazi app.
There are some things you only have to do once for the stink to stick forever.
All you need to know is in the first sentence of your post. If you realise what Nazis are, and what supporting them in 2026 means… you wouldn’t shrug and say “does it matter?”
I do know about the horrific things that the N@zis did, but the degoogle community says the Mullvad VPN is very secure compared to the rest. That’s why I made this post
Okay, now imagine your fee for a Mullvad subscription being funneled into a neo-Nazi movement. Not something out of history books; people actively, currently working to oppress, expatriate, and in the final measure kill people that don’t look or think like themselves.
And you’ll be complicit because you weighed your “security” over what your VPN company stands for and supports.
They showed you who they are, believe them the first time. Don’t subsidize white supremacists.
Ok, I haven’t used any of their products directly, so yeah, thankfully I didn’t contribute to this. Thank you
There is no security in nazism.
500k USD is a lot of money. My entire savings only equates to around ~1% of that, and I’ve never spent more than 1% of that in a single purchase. I’m not sure how much greed it takes for someone to have enough money to comfortably spend hundreds of times more than what most people have on a single political donation, but he spent it on Nazis too. Fucking piece of scum

Ugh, I feel like this might be a controversial take and it’s been on my mind lately. How I see it is kinda how you see it too. I don’t mind that he donated money to whatever party he likes or supports. However, it got me thinking as well, I should not be paying for a service that potentially might fund his actions and donations in the future, if he chooses to, with money that I am paying for.
With that being said, I support their overall mission to uncensor the internet and give privacy to the people while being free, but I don’t want to spend $5/mo if it goes to something I don’t support. I’ll stop using the browser too and move on to something else as there’s a wide variety/alternatives to it.
(P.S. I was already thinking of going to MullvadVPN bc it’s the most cheaper option, but I decided against it and would go for Obscura for $3 more after my other VPN subscription expires.)
Okay, do politics matter? Absofuckinglutely. While I despise shoehorning the subject matter into everything, essentially all aspects of human society are political.
Which isn’t to say that it has to be the determining factor in every choice everyone makes.
With this specific issue, mullvad and the donation made by one of the owners, it matters. You aren’t required to care. You aren’t required to agree. But it definitely matters when a company’s profits are going straight to a political party. Doesn’t matter if it’s a party I agree with, it still matters, and I personally object to it when it’s enough to change a political landscape.
But! That’s me. If the use of money by capital to sway political outcomes doesn’t bother you, that’s fine you’re essentially saying the same thing as a non voter: IDGAF, y’all sort this shit out.
Now, as far as specific party involved. I’m not certain neonazi is the right label. Definitely some questionable beliefs being at the forefront of their platform. But it isn’t nazi either. I don’t agree with their platform, and I think they’re dangerous beyond the borders of their own country, but I can’t point at them and say they’re even fascist in the literal sense. They edge right up to it, but that’s like saying an anarchist and a tankie are the same set of beliefs because they hate capitalism. There’s more differences than similarities.
Which means I also can’t point to someone staying with mullvad and say they’re doing something bad either. I’m likely switching to ivpn when my mullvad time runs out, though of something better comes along, I’d consider it too.
But mullvad has a really good track record of backing up their claims of not having anything to give to any government. That’s a pretty damn big deal to just dismiss. If that’s someone’s highest priority? I ain’t mad at them. Nor would I entertain the screeching that goes along with someone saying that they don’t care. There’s a shit ton worse things in the world right now to worry about, and nobody has infinite energy for all of it.
Mullvad didn’t donate money. One of their founders donated some of his private money to this loonie party. Money that may have come in full but in all likelihood really only in part from the payments he received from Mullvad. But it wasn’t a company decision to give them money.
Now, Mullvad, the company, in my opinion reacted poorly to this. It’s not so much the donation but the company’s reaction to the affair that would’ve been enough for me to switch VPN providers. I wouldn’t hold them responsible for the decisions one of their leaders made in his private life. But this “all politics are okay for us” PR response was the wrong reaction for me.
The party is better described as a horseshoe party. They present a mix of politics that’s mostly very left leaning except for their views on immigration where they turned hard the other way. Calling them Nazis is using the term a bit inflationarily. The real Nazis in Sweden are the Sweden Democrats and they are already in parliament.
The far-right generally take popular talking points from the left. That’s what the fascists and the nazis did. That’s the whole reason why the nazis called themselves “national socialists”, despite being ultra-capitalist and not socialist at all. Socialism being popular again means the far-right can (once again) take leftist talking points to appeal to the sense of disenfranchisement produced by capitalism. Even Trump used some leftist arguments here and there in his campaigns. We can argue all you want that Trump (just like these losers) would never do anything to benefit workers, but my point here is that we can’t just judge a party’s left-right alignment based on simple rhetoric, we need to judge them based on their broader context, broader platform, and on who’s actually backing it. To consider them leftist based on empty rhetoric would force you to conclude Hitler was also “very left leaning except for their views on” ethnic cleansing. Come on lol.
a horseshoe party. They present a mix of politics that’s mostly very left leaning except for their views on immigration
Yeah, except for that last bit… That’s Nazi enough for me to annull whatever leftwing airs they put on. Also, that “horseshoe” theory of politics is a centrist fantasy.
Politics are in everything everywhere. You can’t excape it. Every decision you make has an effect. You can try to downplay it, but everything ultimately matters in ways you’re unlikely to completely comprehend. It’s best to assume everything you do, big and small, has some effect on the world and it matters.
I fart, a small amount of methane escapes into the atmosphere and that accumulates with all the other methane and eventually contributes to the climate crisis that asphyxiates some phytoplankton that contributes to producing the 98% of the oxygen on Earth, and that ultimately asphyxiates my niece in the future. Her genetic line dies and her progeny might have been the scientist that ultimately figured out time travel, breaking time space continuum into a traversable space, irreversibly changing the course of all of history, not to mention human history.
All because I didn’t hold in my fart, this never happens, and time traversal is never discovered, and all life ultimately dies with the heat death of the universe, instead of living immortally in an ever expanding loop of time/space across all of eternity.
Now extrapolate how important it is when you actually do something intentional. Politics are inevitable, it fucking matters. You can’t choose not to be a part of it. So fucking try and at least be intentional about it.
