I am going to ask you to stop slandering Patrick Stewart and stop calling him a zionist. This is your only warning. I’ve had enough of you derailing the thread.
Leave Britney alone!
You are acting like a tankie
No, don’t you get it?
If you ever associate or feel good about anybody who ever turns out to be anything other than perfect, then you are also morally culpable for everything that person or group has ever done or will ever do.
That’s why tankies have no friends.
You forgot to say that glazing Mao and Stalin is perfectly acceptable
Also, critical support, so your problems with their guys don’t count.
I imagine a future where there is no religion, no war, and nothing to kill or die for.
You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.
Everyone is going to hell then lol
I think IndustryStandard is some sort of troll, judging by their comment history. I’m just not sure why.
He’s been here awhile, they’re definitely a tankie. Some of them like to poke at the “liberals” more often than others, they’re probably at the upper end of that range, similar to braininabox, jankforlife etc.
They’re very much behaving like low energy Kalingrad payroll people. No passion, no vision, just following instructions.
The thing that’s really fucked about this is that they are openly calling for violence now, and that .world is allowing them to mod commities here, where if anyone says anything pro-democracy in their echo chambers you get permabanned and called a Zionist.
That and they don’t care about the genocide, they use it as a dogwhistle to recruit disillusioned progressive young people and softly open them up to radicalisation and violence.
You got to wonder why this platform is free.
If nothing changes, the people who created this will be the ones to get it shut down when some idiot will blow up something and have a whole Lemmy history.
It all adds to the whataboutism noise. Every so often someone dies or says something that will make everyone pause and think or mourn together. The trolls can’t have that so they will find the one moment or talking point that will pull the angry base back into the fold or at least stop the thinking.
It kinda sucks. Like, there are some truly awful people out there and then there are some genuine and good people who have at one point or another had a bad take.
Trolls like to make you think it’s all the same.
Tankies gonna tank.
Destroying their own credibility is the only thing they excel at.
When people are so full of shit they constantly look for a target to throw it at.
Most of the time I find tankie antics annoying or stupidly amusing, but this actually makes me legitimately angry.
Admittedly, the post still has almost only downvotes. But whoever posted that has some issues.
I don’t know how good or bad Patrick Stewart was…
But I loved the character of Captain Picard.
They are not the same thing.
Dude also played Vladimir Lenin in Fall of the Eagles and read his books for the role. And they still try to demonize him for something he said 14 years ago.
Oh, what did he say 14 years ago?
He praised Israel, but after actually visiting Israel, he started to push for Palestinian recognition and statehood.
Yeah, seems like a nothingburger.
I believe the subject of this post is him appreciating Israel for their hospitality while filming something. He said something to the effect of enjoying the food and culture.
Polite fluff that I think literally any public figure would say while being a guest in a country.
He definitely embodied starfleet ideals on and off the screen, he was genuinely a good person
Years ago I saw some clips of him saying some cringe sleezy things to who ever he was with. I’ve seen clips of his sense of humor. He definitely wasn’t trying to “embody starfleet ideals”
…so I think he was just a man off set. Like all actors, like any man. I wouldn’t take that as some affront to Starfleet ideals… In fact it’s more Starfleet to acknowledge he was just a human playing a role, so was a complete and flawed person outside of that idealized role (you know humanize him, give him his humanity)… Rather than to keep up this pretense that he was the embodiment of the character off and on set.
That’s not how actors and acting works.
He may have been a good or bad man. I did not know him in daily life… And I don’t think you did either. That’s not something to be offended by.
He was an all around good dude. A philanthropist.
Have you ever thanked someone for something who ended up being not a great person? Yeah, it’s not a big deal. That’s basically what him thanking Israel amounts to.
Patrick Stewart was generally very kind and well liked in his field. He has also given very honest interviews where he admits that his career was most important thing in his life. Not with arrogance or pride but a sad self-understanding. There are elements of Picard in him, even if the whole of the man is not Picard.
Absolutely, there must be in order for him to pull off such a portrayal.
Let me preface it with this tankies are terrible people who support a war of aggression on Ukraine but supporting a genocidal state that use the same propaganda to justify colonialism is not being imperfect it’s being a disgusting scum.
What, specifically, did he say or do to support them? And what was the state of the situation at the time that he said it?
If you’re going to call someone “disgusting scum” you should have something more than a screenshot of a title posted by someone you think is a “terrible person”.
Opposing bds which goal id to hurt israelcprofit to try to put pressure on it. If he went during russia war if aggression on Ukraine to Ukraine thanking Russia and opposing the sanctions he would have been canceled but when it is about palestine , most people have very low standards
That’s not specific. What did he say? Where? When? Citation?
As far as I can tell, he took a 4 day vacation in 2011, and then played a role in a movie filmed there in 2012. He said he enjoyed the food and had a nice visit.
Is that what you’re extrapolating from? You think it is normal to visit a country doing settlers colonialism that is kidnapping, raping, torturing , ethnically cleansing another group for 8 decades?
So you don’t actually have anything beyond “liked the food in 2011”.

It is meanless if you don’t support boycott and arms embargo . The genocide is still continuing in Gaza, the number of colonies and ethnic cleansing of Palestinian still increase in the West Bank. The west still lie and send and buy weapons to Israel. We are the farthest from a Palestinian state and closer to the extermination of Palestinians. Also fuck China and Russia for having normal trade with Israel
Most people don’t buy products from Israel anyways, but not because they purposely do so, but because no one offers Israeli products in the first place.
Also his support still means something. Just because it isnt the most extreme measures doesnt mean it means nothing.
This is not true there is plenty of Israeli products and products from companies supporting israel and it’s colonial army
Maybe in the US, but very less so outside of it.
He was pro Palestine, literally a few months after visiting Israel he was cheering the UN vote to recognize Palestine as a nonmember state “finally a first step towards Palestinian independence”
He opposed bds. All western leaders who still send weapons to israel claim to support a two state aolution
He opposed bds
