Privacy@lemmy.ml•Fury Erupts After Google Chrome Sneakily Installs 4 GB AI Model On Users' PCsEnglish
24·14 days agoIf the AI model runs locally and doesn’t spy on you, sure. Users should be asked before such a thing is installed and many old computers will choke hard at running this shit too. Google chrome is gonna take up a lot more ram too.

But wtf we’ll need a phone to solve captchas now? What happens if you don’t have one?

1·16 days agoThe dropped port forwarding is a bit of a deterrent I will say. Windscribe also is a bit iffy on it.
With Windscribe, you need to buy a static IP and you can only forward above the 1,000 range. I cannot forward 80 or 443 because apparently it is limited to prevent it from being abused.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•I am super nervous, so close to jumping to GrapheneOS.English
2·2 months agoI don’t intend on cutting Google from my life, but I want the option to, and I want boundaries with Google. I felt as if I didn’t install GrapheneOS, I’d lose the ability to in the future. Google could easily roll out an update locking the bootloader, so I felt like doddling with it was a risky move.
So far it is good, I am still exploring what I can do with GrapheneOS. It’s bare bones to start with, no included wallpapers so I have to fetch my own. RCS seemingly works after granting Google play to access my carrier or whatever, so that’s good.
