Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•I was recently gifted a Steam Deck for Christmas! If you only had a budget of, let's say 50 bucks, what would you get?
2·2 months agoI loved playing the Dyson Sphere Program, but the controls without mouse and keyboard felt impossible to me, so I stopped playing it altogether since gaming mostly on the Stema Deck. Have you got any tips for making the controls work better?

4·3 months agoI wonder what you are referring to as well. Also ‘weaponizing discomfort’ sounds like something inappropriate while actually discomfort is a real thing and no one has to stand for it (in a certain degree). Not caring at all if you are causing others discomfort is the definition of selfishness. Recompensating somebody with a big tip, because you are a dick doesn’t make you less of a prick.

2·4 months agoProbably depending on the country and according legislature, but as a pedestrian, I often wish for more scooters to take to the road as well. In most aspects they are very equivalent to bicycles and just as fast and dangerous. Worst of all are those scooter drivers who switch between road and sidewalk with every traffic light.
Huh, and I thought I needed a Microsoft account, but this way I could maybe even use for the computers at work. Thanks!
Yes, there is. Why deny something without checking, elaborating or citing a source? Sure, it is fun to doubt anybody is ever saying true things on the Internet, but denying a fact just because you do not know it yet, is misinformation in itself.

Games@lemmy.world•Felt the need to carve a pumpkin this year, and so attempted to depict my favourite video game spooky guysEnglish
4·4 months agoBeautifully carved! Just to be certain though: This is about Outer Wilds - Echoes of the Eye, right?
I have seen this (or a very similar) picture about five years ago and have thought about it nearly every time I heard the name Radcliffe. I am very thankful that you posted it here and I can finally save it as a reference.
Thanks for giving this reference! The book is out of print, but high-resolution scans can be downloaded here for free, which is endorsed by the original author apparently.
I’m not sure if I love how much I hate this or the other way around.
Why did you have to do that? Please don’t tell me they turned out to be terrible people actually (do tell if they are though)

7·5 months agoThe origin of the alot is the blog hyperbole and a half, this article in particular. It is very cute tbh. I don’t find it hard to believe that somebody drew this particular alot in response later on.

31·6 months agoI love your enthusiasm! But as someone who works in semiconductor development, I feel a bit like it is time to abandon this branch of the technology tree for now again. Maybe I am just disheartened from the PhD stress, but where does it really lead to right now? Following up on Moore’s Law right now just seems to promise higher efficiency and lower electricity demands while actually that is mainly greenwashing attempt IMO (lower resolution technologies are more energy and resurce efficient when considering resource demand during production; high device density leads usually to increase of the number of transistors which are operated parallely, so while the single FET is more efficient in dynamic operation, the whole chip might have much higher leakage). At the same time this efficiency is used as justification to just increase the calculation load whithout considering if it is useful (e.g. LLMs). Resources might be better allocated for More than Moore/architectural approaches e.g. for neuromorphic computing to actually reduce the immense AI computing load coming up.
Sorry for the rant, I think I gotta quit my job.

1·6 months agoI tried this with zeroPi and jellyfin, bit the Pi seemed constantly overwhelmed with displaying videos, so I got about a frame every 2 seconds (might have been a pi3b). Have you got any clue what the issue might be? It depended a lot on the particular file I wanted to play as well though, but I wasn’t able to find a pattern. Of two matroska/mp4 files one worked well, the other stuttered as hell.
