I had one fail on my X1C, and the only way to fix it would be to find another USB-C port for that model and solder it onto the board.

I am currently learning how to explore the Akashic Records, and in my free time, I enjoy reading stories on AO3, especially set in the Human Domestication Guide universe.

I’m loving to see all these people jumping to Linux. I switched back in 2008 with Ubuntu 8.10. So much has changed since then.

Leopards Ate My Face@lemmy.world•Newsmax sues Fox News, saying it illegally controls right-wing TV market : NPREnglish
2·5 months agoI was arguing with my mom a few weeks ago because she was spouting racist anti-immigrant bullshit randomly, and I told her to stop watching Fox News.
She said, “I don’t watch Fox News anymore. They’re propaganda. I switched to NewsMax.”

I honestly hope they destroy and bankrupt each other. We literally can’t mention politics anymore or else it will turn into a shouting match, because she is so brainwashed and propaganda-addled and gets angry when I literally back myself up with evidence that I show her right then. We even had to come up with a safe word if we get close so we don’t start yelling.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•It has now been 15 years since the federal minimum wage rose to $7.25English
18·6 months agoI remember when it rose from $6.25 to $7.25 when I was working at Kroger in high school. At the time it was a nice little bump, but the fact that it hasn’t changed since is criminal.

I remember the video this is from. I think it’s just a low wall that’s open above that with a staircase on the other side.

20·6 months agoMy stereo can do Bluetooth for music. That’s good enough for me. I hope my car lasts forever because I don’t want anything like that in my car.

Linux@lemmy.ml•App for downsizing MP3s automatically when copying to a phone?English
6·7 months agoI don’t know about automatic, but I also have music locally on my phone after moving away from streaming services.
I use fre:ac to convert from FLAC to MP3, and then just save it in a separate folder. Then when I’m done I move the folder to the phone and delete it from the computer so I just have FLAC on my computer.
Not automatic, but that’s how I usually do it.
I was one of those job numbers in June. 😐

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Bat flies into woman's mouth in Arizona, costing her nearly $21,000 in medical billsEnglish
5·7 months agoThanks for reminding me of this. My COBRA coverage was asking $758 a month. I found a 0 deductible plan on healthcare.gov for $370. If I don’t get a job by the end of this month, I’ll sign up for that.

8·7 months agoI got laid off and looked into the COBRA offering. Sorry, but I’m not paying $758 a MONTH for coverage. NOPE.
Thanks for the Summit recommendation. I just tried it out when Sync for Lemmy stopped letting me login after I had to repatch it with Revanced, and it’s pretty great!

I am using Bluefin, based on Fedora Silverblue. I realized that I was already exclusively using flatpaks for everything except one random app, so I thought why not go all-in?
Haven’t had to worry about updates or system breakages since, and it’s been great so far.
I used to use Debian Stable, but since doing SysAdmin work I’ve just become used to the way Fedora / RHEL does things.

Firefox@lemmy.ml•What is the keyboard shortcut to "go to previous displayed tab" ?English
31·7 months agoHoly crap. Use the Tab Stash extension. Separate tabs into windows and stash the entire window. It will save them all to a group or collection that you can name, and you can go back and reopen them when needed.
Seriously, I can’t imagine how outdated your browser is if you never close it, not to mention the last time you restarted your computer. You’re one power failure away from chaos.
If you also get the xBrowserSync extension, you can back up all your bookmarks and tabs so if your computer ever dies you can restore it to a new browser install.

I had a Fairphone 4 with iodéOS before the microphone broke. And the microphone isn’t repairable… 🙃
Now I’m on a Pixel 9a with GrapheneOS. Just set it up today but it’s been pretty smooth thus far. I’m on Tello (T-Mobile network), and I was even able to get RCS connected within Google messages after following some advice I found.
