I basically do that when baking bread, but I also know that the result isn’t going to be ideal. Basically I’m trying to experiment to get a good multigrain bread that’s packed with extra fiber, but at the same time doesn’t use hard to get or very expensive items. Each time I get closer to perfecting the recipe, and learn something new about baking in general. Worst case, I eat the parts that still turn out OK, and feed the rest to the birds.

SteamOS is easy to deal with if you stick to using Flatpak. I found out the hard way when installing yay that since their packages are a little behind, it wouldn’t compile. The problem was either pacman or one of it’s dependencies was out of date according to makepkg. So I tried to update them manually and broke the whole system. Plus SteamOS overrides changes to the root filesystem when it updates, which undos all my hard work tweaking the system, which I find infuriating.

I found Arch Linux to be less maintenance that Debian/Ubuntu, but then again I need to tweak every aspect of my system and both Debian and Ubuntu keep getting in my way. For example Firefox now requires snap on Ubuntu systems, and Debian requires that I maintain my own version of Pipewire if I want decent sound on my earbuds. Also Apt/dpkg does seem to break a lot.

I also had issues with Manjaro and SteamOS due to system packages being a version or two behind vanilla Arch, which breaks things when you install AUR packages. That being said I have used both Garuda Linux and CachyOS and I’ve liked both. They get that balance between not requiring that I setup everything myself, while not getting in my way when I want to tinker.

I have a cat like that, unfortunately he wants to get on the stove and play with the dials, chew on electrical cables, and push everything off of all tables, including glass.

Not if you either root and remove spyware, or use a pair that’s only a screen in tandem with a raspberry pi or other development board.

Right, though if you could get by with a single photo, you might be able to use a photo from their social media, and use a description when that isn’t available.

I’m setting up a viture luma to do something like this as well as have a HUD like interface for task tracking, like you’d have in video games. That said I’m taping the camera looking thing and I’m just going to use my phone when I need to take pictures or video. I’m setting it up where I could just transfer needed data directly whenever possible to avoid needing to use my phone camera. Most likely if i do use photos, it will be more of a photo journal than recording everything I see. This is mostly to try to keep others comfort and privacy in mind even though it would be stored locally on a raspberry pi.

Same. I even have a pair that I’m working on setting up as an accessibility device, but i worry that even with the camera looking thing taped, that it’s going to cause issues, especially since I’ll have a visible wire hooked up to a raspberry pi.

AI can have a positive impact on society, but not in it’s current form. We need things that can help us make sense of large data sets, we also could use things that help automate really tedious, menial tasks. We do not need or want industrial grade slop generators.

At least ram will be really cheap then. I looked at the prices when considering what to replace my dying steam deck with, and it’s like over $200 for most of it.

To secure your stuff. Hacking and social engineering are both easier than you think and identity theft is devastating. I know most people here already know that, but having worked in tech support, it’s unbelievably common to skip even the basics, not to mention my grandparents who think I’m just paranoid.

Very deep and sub bass. Both travel through the ground more than the air, so not only does it go far and wide, it’s also very hard to block. I can use earplugs for most loud music, but even a combo of earplugs, gun mufflers, and a white noise machine is just rendered ineffective against deep/sub bass. On top of being extremely annoying, it’s also not really good for your health.

This made me laugh, and after an insanely rough day, I really needed it.
