  • Your answer does not follow since I did not say that compiling is what makes people knowledgeable. Gentoo isn’t merely compiling. Binpkg repos exist and suffice for a lot of users.

Gentoo is unique in that it explicitly gives you maximum freedom in designing your experience, at the same time it implicitly forces you to learn since there is no straight forward process of installing the OS and designing/tweaking your setup later on. If you mess up, you can’t just simply do a reinstall or go back any other way willy nilly (in most cases), you have to do the software equivalent of an open heart surgery. Going from Debian to Gentoo has a lot of friction associated with it.

Portage makes you read updates, and is very clear about issues. At every turn in Gentoo there are opportunities to learn. This comes at the expense of comfort, but it pays in other ways. You are better off understanding Gentoo as an exercise in minimalism.

Just as your initial assumption does not follow, neither does your suggestion that I’m implying users of other distros and OSes can’t become knowledgeable.

Have you ever even tried Gentoo or invested time to understand it?

I am sorry, I am an outsider, I believe it needs to be said very clearly what the US has been doing. It’s the most obvious thing, and for its obviousness it doesn’t get talked about at all because all fundamental critique is blended into constructive criticism that’s meant to improve and prolong the system instead of abolish it.

Yes, not all Israelis are “bad”, but most Israelis support the expansionist projects, just like most Americans have a very screwed up sense of nationalism, even some of the leftists (who’ll believe in the supposed forwardness of both the American revolution and the genocidal campaign that was manifest destiny.) I don’t “hate” US Americans, I simply am frustrated with the bullshit.

The US has such an odd social structure and a dependence on cheap imports. You wouldn’t be remissed to call it the landlord of the world because that is evident even in the behaviour of the slightly better off to well off US Americans who are able to travel the world.

The US was a mistake. So much about the country is hideous and vain. I genuinely instinctively trust people from Canada and Mexico more because I’ve had genuinely terrible interactions with US Americans on pretty regular basis. What people say about Israeli tourists holds true for Americans as well, the world has been forced to accept what the US has done to other places as morally good somehow.

This era is ending and I say to hell with the devil that is the American state

  • you’ll need to jump through legal hurdles to get it and it’s all just as piecemeal and difficult to understand as the epstein files themselves without the context to give you an understanding of what any of it means, so getting a copies that are still floating around online or following a social media influencer who put in the work to explain it are your best bets to see it yourself – presuming that tiktok hasn’t shut them all down by now.

I guess I’ll have to do my own research

  • It’s multi-layered.

I tried out rooms that were a bit off the beaten path. It seemed like the smaller a room was the more racist and misogynistic the users, sometimes even flat out advocating fascism. I was not dealing with skinheads, these people were too awkward to have the experience necessary to understand why you would not want to be bigoted. We’re talking people with very narrow perspectives.

Then there was a person who I later found out was a l*li**n whose instance I joined. The tone of discussion there wasn’t terrible, certainly not as bad as the other smaller rooms, but the admin of the instance was prone to meltdowns and slightly controlling. I would have fights with him over politics since he was libertarian and I wasn’t. He would accuse me of not respecting other people’s opinions, including his own. Opinions like “ICE good, darn immigrants bad.” He would also accuse me of being combative and not being able to deal with criticism because I dissented when he gave his takes on politics that were verbatim positions from Ayn Rand Institute articles. He’d call me a collectivist without giving any argument as to why. My criticising and not letting myself be swayed by half-arguments somehow meant (to him) that I couldn’t handle or didn’t expect criticism.

At some point he sent me a meme insinuating he was, ahem, interested in his friends’ younger sisters when he was in high school. I regretfully tolerated that, but I stopped being able to take him seriously on some level. I decided to end the relationship after he wrote to me about sexual experiences he had when he was sixteen. I told him I didn’t want to hear any of it and went ahead non the less. Luckily the content wasn’t quite as explicit. If it had been I would have ended things on far colder terms.

Matrix is in general quite the different different experience. A handful of governments use it because Matrix is basically being marketed towards the security sector. I think a lot of the oddness also stems from that.

  • It’s true I’d need users. But what I am planning on making has one significant advantage, namely the, forgive my poor wording, overcoming of traditional economical constraints. The big technical challenge would probably be dealing with bots and finding the constraints that make it hard to act antisocially. I really want people to have access to a straight forward method of connecting with strangers that is unenshittifiable. Even if it doesn’t go anywhere, it’s still a practice in doing something better.

I’ll correct myself, the data is simulated and I skipped the word. You are completely right to remind me of this. But there are a few important considerations here.

    1. The original DK study used a IQ like score based on general cognitive faculties for its argument, subjective vs. measured.

Wiki quote: “The initial study by David Dunning and Justin Kruger examined the performance and self-assessment of undergraduate students in inductive, deductive, and abductive logical reasoning; English grammar; and appreciation of humor.”

    1. Second of all, for this I have consulted the study itself, according to my cursory read the sample size of the study seems to be below 100. I’ll let that speak for itself.

    2. A new study working with more data, that doesn’t just present generalised skill shows that, just like in the simulated data, it is still a blob following a normal distribution in terms of density. The simulated data was meant to show how misleading inferences can be made with noisy results.
