Electricity prices regularly go into the negative on windy/sunny days. It’s not me ripping you off with your energy bill. So instead of repeating populist rhetoric, I suggest you start yelling at your own government. We need to stop importing overpriced LNG and oil and continue to focus on renewables (for Sweden probably geothermal and hydro). Don’t worry, I’ll be doing the same here. Europe can figure this out together if we only start yelling at the right people.

But I do believe that nuclear has no long term future, especially if we need to import uranium from abroad, specifically Russia.

Well maintained plants might be safe, but we see how every summer several need to be throttled down because cooling water is running out. Noone has figured out where we put the waste, in classic human fashion we bury it in the ground and hope someone will figure it out before that becomes its own disaster.

I don’t claim Germany has green energy, yet it made some significant progress in the past decade. Despite most governments repeatedly making the worst possible decisions. Like crippling the solar industry in the east or handing our tax money over to big oil and gas. Admittedly having to import most of our solar panels from China isn’t great either, but I prefer a once of purchase over a subscription.

Fuck nuclear… it accounted for 6% of the energy mix (-ish… taking this number from memory) and we still don’t know what to do with the waste. Also it creates further dependence on acquiring uranium from Russia. So no, that did not make as big of an impact as many think.

If the banks don’t know their customer is US citizen I doubt they report anything. If you have evidence of e.g. German banks sending their customer data to the US you’d have a big story on your hands.

Not sure I understand the point here. Banks in Europe ask about the citizenship and you’re free to say No and there will be no issue opening an account. Assuming you have another passport, which everyone renouncing their citizenship must have anyway to not end up stateless.

The tax obligation can be ignored as well, I know plenty Americans abroad who haven’t filed in years but continue to vote from abroad. If needed you can make up with the IRS, but once the citizenship is gone, it’s gone.

The only reasonable explanation I see is the guy working a government job where the US passport could be considered a security concern. But this small minority should not lead to queues.

Oh I’ve been on a similar journey, after a year long break I’m back in the education space and things have only gotten worse.

I voiced concern about professors using LLMs to create presentations. The sloppy images with nonsense text are one thing, but it’s hallucinating on actual content. Since I’m learning, I can’t be certain if something on this topic is true or an hallucination. My criticism was understood as me just not being tech savvy enough for AI.

I’ve beefed up my legal insurance because I believe the only way to hammer some sense into people and businesses is to sue when their agentic ai makes mistakes. Currently nobody seems accountable for the output and that has to change.

I have run into this issue of needing Microslop for school. I’m allowed to use my own hardware if I install their spyware. So I have two setups:

Portable: Win10 on an old lenovo laptop that just runs their tracking software. I can access the sharepoint, outlook and teams with LibreWolf on that machine, if I must.

When at home I have a virtual machine that also runs Win10 for their spyware. I use LibreWolf on fedora for the sharepoint, outlook and teams.

I love Graphene, because I seriously care about privacy. Everything works well but I also wasn’t a fan of having to find Google hardware. Second hand worked and next year I will consider the Motorola that will run Graphene.

Since you insist on Meta and Google Apps, you seem less concerned with hard privacy, so a Fairphone with e/OS could be a great choice. e/OS is nice too, I tried it for a while but found some laps in it’s privacy settings and I did not want to leak any location info to google.

If you don’t like it, you can revert to stock android, no problem.

Eating out is expensive, I would recommend at least Fr.150 per person per day for food. That should cover 2-3 meals and a coffee, sweet treat, etc.

In Europe it’s normal that supermarket prices are significantly cheaper than restaurants. The people preparing our food deserve a living wage.

Sure there will be some fancy ski hut waiting for someone rich or drunk enough to shell out 100k for booze, but just because it exists doesn’t mean it’s the norm.
