Definitely an extreme example, but within the last week I had cottage cheese that had a date on the label of 2024. It was kept in a cold part of the fridge the whole time and was not opened until I had it.

Not only was it still good, it was outright the best-tasting cottage cheese I’ve had.

Ah yeah, this person really isn’t impersonating me. They just kinda took over my account and happened to have the same legal name as me so yeah

For context, my legal name (first and last!) is very rare (as in I might be the only one) in the US (where I live), but is very common in a specific country in Europe.

I made my Facebook account when I first entered high school, and I was very security illiterate at the time. So I used the same password everywhere. In that mean time, a security thing happened and people’s Facebook passwords got leaked. A couple years later, I found that someone with my legal name in said European country took it over.

Thankfully this person didn’t try to take over any of my other accounts, wasn’t pretending to be me and was just posting about their life on what was my account, and by the time I was making online purchases, I was fairly educated in password security as well as pretty anti-Facebook because of hearing about shady anti-privacy things they were doing.

Can see how that’d be an absolute nightmare scenario for many others though!

Eh, I hardly used it and the way I look at it, Facebook is getting fed bad information about me.

I view it as passively poisoning their dataset for the past more than ten years 😂

Another reason to be happy that my Facebook account got stolen forever ago.

The article actually mentioned another article on the same site that Meta refused to take down a post (not an ad from which Meta gets directly paid! a post!) that advocated for violence against Muslims!

Which is to say that an ad for such a play would not only be allowed, but probably be hard to avoid on such platforms. 🙃

I turn to retrocomputing to get away from it all because I would expect people in that world to generally agree this is horrible and there’s somehow vibe-coding there too. I’m so tired of this.
