There are zero ways to use this cord correctly. Do not tell people otherwise. The proper generator connection is to, as you just said, use a proper generator inlet and interlock like you said you use. Anyone using a cord like this is using it incorrectly as there is no correct way to use it. Both the CEC and the NEC expressly forbid these. All it takes is for a child to unplug the wrong end and touch the exposed prongs and they will get shocked.

A proper generator inlet should have the male ends in a recessed inlet box connected to either a transfer switch or an interlocked generator panel.

Worth mentioning that they are absolutely not safe as the exposed prongs are energised. They are called suicide cords for a reason. All it takes is to plug the cord into a running generator or working outlet first and the exposed terminals are now live.

Its also worth noting that they very often kill linesmen working to desire the utility because people use them to hook up their generators without turning off their main breaker which back feeds onto the grid.

Proper generator inlets are very readily available and if you don’t want to go that route, just plug your fridge and other important devices into your generator with extension cords.

I largely agree with you here. I recently left Spotify and have been growing my locally hosted music library and instead of building my own playlists I’ve just been tuning into whole albums. I’ve found that most albums (not all, some albums seem to just be thrown together) have a flow to them and are just much more enjoyable when listened together.

Canadian Electrician here. I have zero idea what a schuko is, but could you not just buy a proper cord end from a hardware store and just replace the end of the cord instead of using adaptors? We can usually get replacement cord ends at most hardware stores for only a couple dollars and they don’t require much effort or electrical experience to replace.

Often these adaptors are cheaply made anyways and sometimes burn up.

Its not just Netflix these days. Every new show seems to start their life on the chopping block. If the first season doesn’t get enough views in the first few days its out then season two doesn’t even get made. If it does do okay then they get to start writing a second season, which means another 2 years before we get a second season and by then we have completely forgotten the show until you read about it getting cancelled 2 weeks after season 2 came out because nobody tuned in.

There aren’t that many “limitations” for gaming on Linux these days. If you’re into older PC games Linux works much better than windows. Most new games work as good or better too. I wholeheartedly recommend that you give it a try, especially since you seem to know what you are doing PC wise. I went from being constantly frustrated with my system (especially with broken updates) to actually feeling like I was in control of it.

From my understanding nobody knows. The DOJ said it was already removed, but the NYTimes claimed they found 40 images of CSAM. The DOJ said they immediately removed them Saturday, but a lot of files that didn’t contain CSAM were also removed. I’ve extracted the 101GB torrent and haven’t come accross any yet, but there’s a ton of files in there too. People have yet been able to download the entire ZIP and are trying to scrape everything individually as far as I know.

As for the legality, I’m not a Lawyer and I don’t live in the states, but It’s all information that’s been released to the public by the US DOJ as required by a court order, so it’s a call that only you can make. With the amount of data that’s already disapeared I’m personally choosing to host it regardless, and I’ll seed whatever anyone else can salvage of dataset 9 too.

Its been 8-10 months I think. I haven’t had any major problems that weren’t caused or complicated by my own ignorance of Linux as a whole. I’ve learned a lot. I have gotten every game I wanted to play so far to run, one way or another. I set up my own home lab server for streaming and cloud storage complete with a VPN to allow remote access. I have also set up a Windows VM for some stubborn software that my partner uses from time to time (I honestly thought this would be harder than it was.) I also am in the process of indoctrinating several coworkers. I’m currently running 1 PC with Bazzite, 1 with fedora KDE, 2 with Mint, and a server running Ubuntu server and using casaOS as an interface.

I’ve really enjoyed the learning curve. My future plans were to change my server from CasaOS to something else, and to build a new gaming PC and try CachyOS, but that might get put to the side while hardware prices cool off a bit.

Yeah, although electric heat is 100% efficient it takes a lot of energy to heat water quickly. You’re better off going with gas for hot water on demand. I imagine the unit price is more, but the install price will probably be lower.

400V in residential sounds exciting. That’s one way to cut down on wire cost I guess.

Yup. That’s why people use smaller heating elements and slowly heat up lots of water in an insulated tank instead. Just the difference in the cost of wire you need to run is massive.

I’m an electrician. I haven’t been impressed by most of the tankless systems I’ve hooked up. I would definitely go with gas unless you are willing to run some serious power. Most hot water tanks pull about 3000-4500W or 12.5-18.75A at 240V. A good tankless system is upwards of 18000W or 75A at 240V and some can be around 36000W which works out to 150A. This will easily be the single largest electrical load in your house, unless you also have an electric furnace or something. Depending the size of your electrical service and what else you have in your house you may need to upgrade the electrical service going to your house as well. Most Residential Electrical services are usually 100-200A in my area.

Man, I was soooo excited about the PS5, but then it turned into such a shit show to get one that I just put my money into my PC and I never even got around to picking one up when availability became more reasonable. I don’t think I’d ever really want to get back into the console gaming space anymore.

I had been thinking about it for a while. I had played with linux before on an old laptop, but not seriously, though I had been getting more frustrated with windows every time it updated it seemed. I then got the urged to play an old game of mine that i had picked up on a steam sale recently that i hadn’t played in years. It took hours of tinkering and web sleuthing to get it to run, then i played 20 min had to run to town, so I shut down my PC and bam. Windows update. Game no longer worked again. The next weekend I installed Linux mint, then Fedora, then the weekend Bazzite the weekend after that. The game I wanted to play on windows worked right out of the box on Proton. I’ve had less problems overall with Linux than Windows too. Most of the problems I did have early on were also self inflicted. Pro-tip don’t try to remove then re-install the lastest python manually in mint. It breaks everything apparently, luckily (unlike Windows) its very easy to re-install. It’s been about 7 months now.
