  • Tl;dr at the bottom (sorry)

That is a good question. Now I genuinely don’t know how it works in bigger / more dense metro areas but in gods cuntry anyway the transmitters are often 25+ miles away and don’t necessarily contain all the channels one can get. I couldn’t find an accurate or updated list of the stations I should get on any of those “free digital tv channel” websites that even list one of mine as a possibility, so it’s out there but idk where. There was a GIS from NASA I believe that shows all the various public and private/commercial comms towers and such (I’ll see if I can find it again) that had promise, sad allusion unintended, but I couldn’t get it to load on my phone and can’t look at a desktop so soon in the weekend, lulul.

I also read something about close frequency signals having to be physically separated to avoid interference which was depending on power output I believe (yayyy electromagnetic equations).

Additionally also, I can’t remember which channel since it’s been years since summer, but one of mine (and all its subchannels) would always lag a bit on a hot sunny day but would do fantastically in the rain. The other one was more or less the opposite. I’ve since repositioned it and have had clear picture/audio almost constantly that I’ve noticed.

    TL;dr:

I’m pretty sure they’re on entirely separate towers based on maps and prior reception differences.

  • Thank you for checking! Knowing it was just reruns on the Big Three for those lacking a social life is a certain flavor of relief.

Assuming it was a local “grayout” on the two subchannels coming from different transmitters, could it be a limited testing of the waters for possible public response? OTA watchers would probably report a lack of feed less than someone who subscribes to a wired (cable, internet) service because one assumes OTA has less reliable reception, and it’s also free. But in this case, the other subchannels being on air tells me it’s not a typical reception issue.

It’s easy to handwave this away as an abberation, but it’s still disconcerting.

  • I have this sinking feeling November 17 is significant.

I don’t know if it’s because an update to the insanely invasive PeePal account privacy policy that I actually read goes into effect that day, or because it’s just shy of two weeks after election day, a day by which most states have (or should have) certified their results, or what.

Maybe it’s because it’ll have been just enough time since things “snapped” for those who can’t take the exhaustion and emptiness another week, the ones who know they can no longer absorb their child’s hunger, to realize they are being forced to make heretofore unfathomable decisions to function, let alone remain alive, mere days before they see and hear and maybe even smell their feckless neighbors gorging themselves in malicious ignorance, and jesus christ my-god-where-are-you they want us to be thankful for this shit???

But there they’d have em, their scapegoats for yet another heavily manufactured Penultimate Crisis.

I’m high and I hate everything.

Okay I love some things but I hate everything about this.

  • Everyone should keep in mind: Besides the darkened tone of the world seeping into nearly everything, this place is probably crawling with shit-stirrers of a slightly subtler flavor than your typical obnoxious troll.

This effect might be from lemmy users in general hating everything about the world right now, or it might be the work of bots and/or illicitly paid humans fronting as the “general left.” The type that reflects your viewpoints pretty well but injects their comments with a little something extra, inflaming you or depressing more than what seems reasonable, maybe pushing you a little closer to the edge, whatever that edge may be.

We (or at least I) have no idea how much astroturfing is happening in the comments. It’s probably best to take anything that seems peculiarly provocative with a grain of salad.

This was an appalling thing for them to say, let alone for you to try to fathom. No one deserves to be SA’d, so how can there be a metric for being “good enough” for it?

On that line of thinking though, I have to wonder if this statement is some kind of weird projection or coping mechanism. Maybe this person experienced SA and was working through very complex emotions resulting in a warped rationalization that they were “good enough” to be victimized in that way. A twisted attempt at recapturing the power they may have lost with misplaced “pride” in someone wanting to SA them.

I don’t know though, definitely conjecture on my part, but regardless of how they came upon these beliefs, they had no right to project that onto you. Good to hear they’re an ex-friend.

  • Do not fucking trust the ends of these seemingly reasonable means.

Should we really count on this department and its affiliates to quality control and dole out these substances in a scientifically accurate and medically approved manner during treatment?

What’s stopping these purveyors from issuing you an altered or “experimental” version of these drugs, with or without your knowledge?

What happens if you “unexpectedly” experience a psychotic break or some other severe mental crisis as a result of these drugs and, buried somewhere in the fine print you signed, your rights to discontinue the regimen and seek further treatment independently are suddenly, simply, out of your hands?

Because this man and those around him will gleefully schlep you to a “wellness farm” instead.

    You follow?

Just… Jesus Christ just please read the fine fuckin print of any drug “trial” you sign yourself up for.

  • Y’all. Never heard of this guy before now. Read through all those screenshots from merc and the quotes from the article, and… this guy is most definitely performing for us. And I mean all of us, captivating the callously cultish right and aggravating reasonable lefties alike. Impressive!

There really is a nuance to his apparent lack of any self-awareness that simply cannot be dismissed. To ride such a fine line, to rustle the jimmies of so many, and then manage to be tapped for such a position, one with such exquisitely mediocre amounts of power…

It’s not the onion. Dude is the onion.

Hopefully the onion to my guacamole.

I, for one, would love to see a taco replaced with a tomahawk any Tuesday. Any Tuesday now…

  • Someone smarter than me needs to look at S*uth D@kota and help put the pieces of this odd puzzle together. (Made a new acct just in case I’m on to something here.)

This university is well known for its cyber-security work with the feds and happens to be working mighty closely with the current SD governor (probably with the help of crusty gnome herself) and some big-talking billionaire to try to buy Tiktk.

If you thought Amazon was bad… A “public-private partnership?” God knows what that would mean for controlling the algorithm and extracting data from unwitting users, i.e. a shitton of Americans.

Fun fact: Just up the road, a massive multi-billion-dollar data center is planned and the company, Applied Tech (which looks like a front tbh), is currently trying to get zoning laws passed in a county of a few thousand people, a county whose board of potential rubes doesn’t understand tech to the point their commission meeting minutes were auto-recovered according to the downloaded file name.

Wanna bet the new power plant planned to go up nearby exists almost exclusively to power this data center’s virtually unlimited crypto mining operation primarily publicized as “just doing AI stuff”?

A final fun fact for good measure: S.D. is a tax safe haven for corporations and is also one of only a few places where “dynasty trusts” can exist in perpetuity.

Maybe it’s all a coincidence, but it sure seems like all of this put together spells disaster. How much dark money stands to hide in SD and places like it? Exactly how would the state’s regulations (i.e. the lack thereof) facilitate this Tktk “rehoming” scheme seemingly filled with ill intent?

The TACO might just be pushing the deadline off so that the feds can get their ducks in a row in how they, too, can capitalize on this venture.

The crusty gnome clearly sold out the state for something. Technocracy perhaps?
