1·6 days agoThat’s certainly one way to drain even more know how and make Stellantis even worse. Might just as well buy Chinese originals then.

4·7 days agoJust saying “esports competitor” (and then “competitor” thereafter) always sounded like a completely reasonable description to me. Not calling them an athlete,
If it’s a sport, he’s an athlete. If it’s competitive video gaming, he’s a video game competitor.

Not every competition is a sport. That’s why there are two distinct terms – competition and sport.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Disney Is Reportedly Eyeing a Full Acquisition of Fortnite Creator, Epic Games, For $1.5 BillionEnglish
2·13 days agoThat can’t be the reason to buy a company that is worth 20+ billion dollars. Gaming industry is bigger than movie industry and games are raking in huge ammounts of money.
I didn’t claim that gaming plays no part in that. My personal opinion is just that it’s mainly (but not solely) an investment into lucrative industry applications of UE. See also @4am@lemmy.zip who noted the use in medical.

52·14 days agoWhile I don’t doubt the intention to buy Epic, I doubt the main interest is because of gaming. Unreal Engine is making massive inroads into film production, see https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/blog/forging-new-paths-for-filmmakers-on-the-mandalorian

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•SteamOS update adds support for Steam Machine and other non-Valve hardware - HDR, VRR, multi-monitor support, and better discrete GPU performanceEnglish
6·24 days agoThere will be the Steam Frame recovery image but with the device tree stupidity of ARM, that image will be only compatible with Frame.
You can bet your ass people will either extract the ARM Steam client by themselves or Valve will simply release a stand alone ARM client.

Certainly better on Linux/SteamOS

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] Would you buy a Steam smart phone?
1·29 days agoIs Valve’s update cycle really worse than what the typical Android device gets?
No but also yes. No because Valve supports their hardware extremely long but also yes because several design decisions of SteamOS as seen on Steam Deck weren’t made with data security in mind. Storage isn’t encrypted, Game Mode has only a simple PIN lock but the underlying Linux account “deck” has no password, so Desktop Mode (=KDE Plasma) cannot be locked out of the box.
That said, Valve will release a Linux ARM version of Steam later this year, so there is no need to solely rely on Valve for a Linux phone that runs Steam and its games.

1·30 days agoalso doesn’t pollute, right?
You make no sense. Of course a range extender pollutes but it’s an edge case only for very long distance drives.
Manufacturing hydrogen is way more energy intensive and pollutes much more.

EV with range extender is not hybrid. You keep confirming that you don’t really know what you’re talking about.

2·1 month agoGasoline in the EV? That is the worst combination.
No true. That’s way more efficient than hydrogen and the gasoline could be substituted by ethanol.

9·1 month agoDid you miss the word theoretical?
No and there is no theoretical nor a practical advantage. Throwing in the word “theoretical” to make a wrong idea sound valid doesn’t work with me.
Another related advantage would be the transport of stored hydrogen where transferring electric energy comes at cost when it comes to long distances.
A gasoline range extender makes more sense than hydrogen.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Honda is killing its EVs — and any chance of competing in the future | TechCrunch
2·1 month agoIt was a fairly transparent anti-EV deflection.
The entire drive train is electric, though. Nobody really does hydrogen combustion (I think it’s the nitrogen in the atmospheric air that reacts with the hydrogen to make poisonous gas.)
Taking the drivetrain seriously would mean improvements to all cars with either kind of energy store.

181·1 month agoThere is the theoretical advantage of storage.
Storing HYDROGEN is an advantage? The thing where the atoms are so small, it diffuses through the walls? The thing that needs insanely high pressure containers? THAT should be an advantage? WTF?

In a world where Meta got caught torrenting entire book archives, anything goes these days.
But strictly speaking, it’s not because it’s based on decompilation and not a clean room reimplementation of the engine. That’s like using a translation service to translate a copyrighted book into another language and then manually iron out the kinks. But in a world of mass piracy for LLM training, nobody gives a shit about such little projects any longer.
