I made an account 3 years ago to make a single post, which I wanted to be anonymous for. I logged in again today as I wanted an account for… um… science, and discovered I was banned a year ago. I find this ban incredibly odd as
- I did not log into this account for two years between the post and the suspension
- They do not state what rule I broke, which is not standard in my experience
- They do not offer the opportunity to appeal, which I also believe is not standard
- They tell me to make a new account. If I broke their rules, why would they want me to make a new account? Temp ban makes sense. Permaban makes sense. This makes no sense.
The only explanation I can think of is that they want to bump the user count.
Their bot detection must have realised that you’re actually human.
What’s odd is that they tell you you’re banned for breaking an unnamed rule then invite you to create another account. If it were an offensive username, you’d think they would just force you to change it. What’s the point of banning an account then asking the banned member to create another account?
Possibly hacked and coopted account?
If rereddit or similar is still a thing, check the post history.
I don’t think so, the password was randomly generated
Still, give it a look. There’s a scooby snack in it for you when you report back here
… um… science
The best kind of science
also, why are you logging in to conduct your research? Log in is not required
Maybe using a vpn?
Even worse!!! Why log in, ESPECIALLY if using a VPN, lol. Defeats the purpose of using a VPN by being like “hey reddit this is still me, just using a new IP”
Because reddit has blocked guest VPN users lately.
Definitely defeats the point, but its deliberate.
Maybe they didn’t like the username?
This is probably the only type of rules violation that could be fixed by creating another account, so this was exactly my thought.
Username is completely clean. It was something along the lines of “BeautifulPuppies”.
If you have two reddit accounts, and one gets banned, if you log into the other on the app or on the web with the same device then that account will be banned as well.
Then they probably wouldn’t say it was okay to make another alt though.
My main has 10s of thousands of karma from a different time in my life and it’s not banned
This is becoming the norm. The ban system is totally broken as they’re handing more and more tasks over to bad AIs. There are constantly tons of complaints from moderators about Reddit’s various broken systems, including the ban system.
Seems like someone closed your account without your permission.
Are you using a VPN?
No
I find that extraordinary posts that may seem incredulous may have the account banned.
