I just know the back story and I know that not only did Guo make his fortune developing property in China (especially when he got some very lucrative contracts for the Beijing Olympics) and, despite his criticisms of the CCP, he still owns a huge amount of property in the so-called communist country which has never seized and nationalized his assets, distributing the wealth amongst the workers.
He left China in “self-exile.” He was never under threat. He just didn’t like living there.
