The two things that went through my head each time:
My odds of getting shot just went up.
No matter what, don’t get injured, and if you do, get your ass back to Canada.

But if they ask me to go to the United States, who they also do business with, I will refuse even at risk of losing my job, which I like very much. I believe it is one of the most dangerous “civilised”, “western” countries now, at least to outsiders.

A combination of two things. First, after losing a previous bid to Qatar, the USA started arresting FIFA members for corruption. Second, FIFA recently expanded the tournament to need more stadiums and the USA is one of few countries that can host at a low cost.
