Big pharma will raise the prices around the world to match the US:

the United States will pay the same price as the Nation that pays the lowest price anywhere in the World

For the record, even Trump admits this won’t actually bring drug prices down in the US:

    From the article:

Trump added that the cost of prescription and pharmaceutical drugs would “rise throughout the World in order to equalize and, for the first time in many years, bring FAIRNESS TO AMERICA!”

So his goal isn’t to even drive prices down in the US. It’s to bring the prices of drugs up everywhere else.

Trump is expected to sign another executive order declaring that his father loved him and he doesn’t cry himself to sleep every night thinking about it. Also that Eric is an unbearable chode.

Honestly, at this point I’ll take the win when I can get it. This is a good move, but doesn’t change all the Nazi bs.

No they can’t just force drug companies to lower prices with a an executive order. Executive orders aren’t laws, they are orders to the parts of government that the President has power over. The president can order that agencies to look into ways of lowering costs, but Congress has to actually pass laws to legally limit prices.

No he’s being a blowhard as usual, saying he’s doing things that he’s not. He can sign an executive order but that’s not going to do anything to get drug companies to give to their profits, because he has no direct legal power over them.

I can tell you that the price of insulin has apparently increased immediately following Trump’s return to office, and he had repealed Biden’s executive orders.

2022 executive order by Joe Biden

Section 1 of that executive order was Biden tooting his own horn. It’s fluff. Section 3 limits the scope of the order.

        Here’s the meat of it:

Sec. 2 . HHS Actions. In furtherance of the policy set forth in section 1 of this order, the Secretary shall, consistent with the criteria set out in 42 U.S.C. 1315a(b)(2), consider whether to select for testing by the Innovation Center new health care payment and delivery models that would lower ( printed page 63400) drug costs and promote access to innovative drug therapies for beneficiaries enrolled in the Medicare and Medicaid programs, including models that may lead to lower cost-sharing for commonly used drugs and support value-based payment that promotes high-quality care. The Secretary shall, not later than 90 days after the date of this order, submit a report to the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy enumerating and describing any models that the Secretary has selected. The report shall also include the Secretary’s plan and timeline to test any such models. Following the submission of the report, the Secretary shall take appropriate actions to test any health care payment and delivery models discussed in the report.

So he told the HHS secretary to look into it and send him a report. What a fucking accomplishment.

        2023 inflation reduction act

is not an executive order, and only decreased costs for 10 drugs for boomers on medicare.
