I used to drink gallons of coffee years ago … I went to Europe on several trips (I’m not a rich man, I’m a budget traveller) … and I realized that espressos are a far better way to deliver your caffeine hit without all the inconvenience.

I work in a bit of construction and renovation and it was normal to drink about two liters of coffee while I worked … trouble was, in half an hour, had to go for a pee, then regularly pee every hour after

Now when I drink espresso, I drink one or two, never have to go to pee for hours. I do manage my water intake and drink water if I sweat too much or just get thirsty … otherwise, caffeine is delivered by espresso … really convenient especially when roofing, or working in a high place and you don’t want to waste time running down at the worst possible moment.

Now that I’m older and middle aged, all those gallons of coffee really don’t help me because they’ll make me pee every 20 minutes!!! so espressos are far better in my opinion.

      Italian living in Sweden here.

It’s also a matter of weather imo. I guess Us coffee is quite similar to the swedish, and it’s unbeatable in a cold weather. But yeah, it has backsides as you said.

Espresso is effective and woth when it gets 30° and over, but it’s not easy to get a good one and since I started with the Swedish one, it sounds a bit unsatisfying, it’s just a sip, I miss the comfy side.

The middleware is the “real” Italian coffe. Italy it’s probably synonym of espresso but Italians drink “moka” home (at least before fucking Jorge Clooney startes to promote Nespresso machines). Moka in the coffe you made with the known Bialetti machine. Easy to do, pretty strong, but not so washy

That’s the thing … I’m up in northern Ontario in Canada where we can get -40 degree weather in February. The winter is probably the only time I’ll prefer big cups of hot coffee … only because I want to drink lots of hot liquid to keep me warm … but even then I regulate how much I drink because it is really a big pain to drink lots of drip coffee, get outside in cold temperatures bundled up in pants, jeans, long underwear, jackets, shirts, belts and then have the urge to pee!!!

Moka Pots are so good, best way to make coffee/expresso at home imo

I’ve been adding different spices to the grounds and it works phenomenally.

Cardamom + Cinnamon makes a great spiced moka

Adding Honeybush gives it a sweeter taste without adding any sugar

Quite easy to make a mocha moka too

I wouldn’t be able to do that - I had to stop drinking caffeine a few years ago but still get cranky if I don’t have the experience of drinking a big mug of tea in the morning, despite the fact that the decaf tea has no direct pharmacological effect on me. Then whenever I’m bored or anxious or tired I make another big mug of decaf tea and feel better. It has to be tea; other beverages don’t help. Purely psychosomatic but still definitely a real effect.
