It’s crazy that Apple is producing hardware that I would want now. Where’s the equivalent thinkpad??
Like it or not, Apple makes great hardware, especially now. They are evil though, and their software is definitely in decline. But the hardware is great.
I cannot get over how basic iOS is, it’s not in decline it’s just never been that good.
This guy, Jake, used to work at LTT/LMG, and has recently started his own channel. I do hope he finds a new groove, as I preferred his presentation style while he was at LTT. He seems to have adopted a “YouTuber” way of presenting - overexaggerating things, and being often overly impressed. Even seeing him on Zip Tie Tuning (a couple of other former LMG people’s new channel), he seemed to act more like I remembered him on LTT. Like I said, I just hope he finds a groove.
I also was super not aware how much he was into Apple products, which is weird for a tech enthusiast.
Really? Tech enthusiasts tend to prefer Apple. It’s just fanboys that have strong feelings either way
This has to be ragebait.
What do you mean?
So is everyone downvoting because the video is bad or because they are a Linux nerd upset someone posted something that’s not Linux (as they downvote while using an Android or Apple phone)?
I downvoted because the title implies the video is a (barely disguised) advertisement
Downvoted for:
- Clickbaity headline.
- Annoying YouTube thumbnail face.
I didn’t downvote, but here’s why I didn’t upvote:
- didn’t mention the model in the title
- watched a minute or so and there’s a “wait until later” bit at the start and it’s filled with that ADHD jump cut nonsense every few seconds
- I don’t really care about Apple products
Maybe it’s one of those. Maybe it’s something else. Idk.
Downvoting because the title says “best” and I disagree. Apple products have a bunch of drawbacks, I wouldn’t buy them even if the hardware is strong and efficient.
The second, please
Just you wait until that Linux phone gets going
I am waiting for the Linux phone to get released. Waiting been the operative word because they’re taking their sweet time with it.
Where’s the equivalent thinkpad??
Probably the T14s Snapdragon version? It claims multi-day battery life and is based on ARM like the M-series Apple laptops.
I, personally, am hoping we see an ARM Framework laptop by the time I need a replacement.
Oh thanks I didn’t know about it!
did anything new happen with the framesork situation? i know this prolly isn’t the place to ask but the post reminded me of laptops
What’s the framework situation? I was planning on buying one next year.
oh boy…
tldr²; they are supporting a very very right wing person (DHH), and people obviously don’t like that their money is going to him.
The DHH that built ruby on rails?
yes

here is the post with the whole drama
From what I’ve heard, there are AMD laptop chips with better multi-core performance, although worse single-core. Other than the spec bump, this is pretty much the same as the M4 laptops.
Basically if you like macOS (and only macOS since Linux will probably take half a decade to show up given the current rate of Asahi Linux support with newer chips) and specifically need more perf for whatever reason (especially for AI), it’s a nice upgrade.
These have way better battery life though, right?
They have better battery life than most laptops, but it also strongly depends on what configuration you use and what you’re doing. For instance, my M1 Max laptop has never hit its stated battery life and frankly is pretty close to my AMD laptop (when its battery wasn’t half dead). The AMD laptop is admittedly heavier though.
AFAIK they’re about the same as the M4 in terms of battery life. If you look at their marketing, their battery life improvements are based on their Intel and M1 laptops (whose owners they seem to be targeting for upgrades).
My M2 MacBook Air has amazing battery life, I’m constantly impressed by it.
I do think the lower-end chips actually have great battery life, but once you start going for the higher performance ones you unsurprisingly sacrifice battery for power, so the battery life becomes merely “good” instead of “great.”
that’s some serious performance
