My Dad had season tickets for an NFL team for 25 years, and we went to a LOT of games together. Then the team suddenly moved, and it was heart-breaking. We got another team, but it wasn’t the same.

In the late-90s, I started my own company, and since I had to carve a lot of time out of my life, I gave up sports once and for all. I haven’t watched an entire game of any sport in over 25 years, and I haven’t missed it.

My only major sports indulgence today is the Olympics.

Thanks for the story. I played football in highschool but the adoption and amplification of jingoist bullshit in the 90s removed any interest I had in it.

        Curious: Cardinals and Rams?

Hah, gotcha! It was the Cleveland Browns. I don’t even care about sports any more but I still hate the Ravens and Bill Bellichek, who turned out to be even more of a massive dickhead than we always thought.

Yeah, a big part of why I was able to stay away was because of the whole commercial circus around pro sports. Now they have to have big parties for the drafts, etc. It’s gross.

And frankly, the REAL reason sports is so big these days is because of gambling. The wealthy want to get your money any way they can, so now they have us betting on the Circuses part of the Bread & Circuses.

They market strongest to young men, hoping to turn them into gambling addicts when they are young, so they can waste their lives throwing away any disposable income they encounter.

They’re also working on figuring out a way to get us to pay some exorbitant price for the Bread part.

          Rich motherfuckers ruin everything.
