The bird at the top is drawn with soft pastels. The other sketches are drawn with a black Polychromos pencil. I have very little experience with soft pastels. What fascinates me about them is the unglazed, active medium, almost like uncompressed charcoal. I haven’t quite figured out yet how to create great transitions with the pastels.
