Let’s put the cost into perspective. I drove to London today for a day out with family and friends. 4 adults, one toddler.
I used about 1/3 tank of petrol. = £15 Parking £10 at tube station all day. Oyster cost was about £8/person = £32
£57 total.
If we had done it by public transport
£19.40/person return on train = £78 £16 travel card zones 1-6 = £64
That is off peak costs as well. If we travelled at peak time it would have been even more.
£142 total.
Almost 2.5x as expensive. Plus I get to travel in the comfort of my own vehicle, and travel time was faster in the car
