Some people wanted to defederate, most iirc wanted to leave it up to the users to chose on a per account level to block the whole instance or only specific users.
There’s huge cultural differences between the triad. Grad is probably some state backed psyop shit, .ml is the gateway “flagship” instance that enforces basic indoctrination, hexbear is the old reddit Chapo shit posters and much less ideological purists.
They all suck, but if you put a gun to my head and said join one it wouldn’t be a hard choice.
I’ve gone to grad and read people bragging about exactly that - it’s no joke, it’s 100% correct. Often the users themselves are very open about not only that but also about why they did it: “if you will block that entire instance then I must do this in order to still be able to talk to you” - translation: “look what you made me do”. Zero shame, zero accomodation as to consent.
Oh okay that makes a lot of sense. So if you don’t find it bothersome, can you talk about why then are people saying that db0 is supportive of tankies? What you said here seems to me to be the identical answer that every single admin of all major Lemmy instances has replied with, when asked about defederation with such culturally different instances - despite how it is known to be turning away noobs from Reddit, and despite how that makes it an opt-out rather than opt-in choice to have to interact with tankies (plus more relevant to me, despite how that “instance block” is HORRIBLY misnamed, possibly even due to reasons of disinformation, it should have been called like a community mute or some such).
So what then is so “special” about db0 that people are wanting to add it as a fourth member of that triad? (Beyond stupidity and witch hunting being a deeply flawed human trait embedded in our psyches)
Edit: and I guess I am still ignoring the actual OP and seeking the contextual backstory behind it - I’ll catch up at some point I suppose!:-)

I think it’s the same people across the triad, alts with different purposes - mask on, mask off, active trolling.
