When I was a kid my parents got a pool from a family friend. It was up for a few years before the liner deteriorated and we took it down again.
In the summers between school years the sun would perfectly reflect off the pool, through the window on my brother’s side of the room, off the ceiling fan’s white blades as it spun, and directly into my fucking face with a strobing effect.
On my brother’s side, where I would need to walk around the half wall, crawl over him in his bed, and pull the roller shade that he would inevitably reopen during the day.

Did you not have windowshades?
Oh yes, absolutely.

Too bad there was no way to close it at night.
