The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is far from a 1:1 remake. When I played it, I found familiar rooms containing redesigned challenges that change how the world and player function. I spoke to old friends who had new things to say that added texture to Hyrule and its people. And, I unpacked how its updated controls and detailed art design redefine its old-school combat and puzzle solving for the modern day. This remake isn’t about scope; it’s about depth. The Zelda series is full of old stories, and the Ocarina of Time remake presents itself as a legend retold, with clear theatrical inspirations that have completely changed how I’m approaching it. LoZ games are not for me. I thought open world might help, but the latest two still just didn’t do it for me. I love them - I love watching my wife play them. But I feel too constrained. I’ve been ruined for most games, I tend to play simulations and such.

I’m excited about this - it’s looking really good, and this article makes me like it even more. I’m only bummed that on our limited budget I have to figure out affording a Switch 2 and the game. :/

But we’ll figure it out. I know my wife will enjoy the hell out of this. :)

It’d be really cool if people weren’t stupid enough to buy games and movies they already have. These developers/production companies would then have to create new IP- something they did a lot back before they realized people were stupid enough to buy games and watch movies they already have.

I sort of just want new games. If they want to follow some design methods of the original that’s fine. But then remaking it and giving us the same story and a lot of repeated moments is just wasted potential.

I guarantee you creators like these have whole books of unused concept art and story ideas that have not been turned into games.

Plot twist: the added material came from unused concept art and story ideas

I’m not against getting a remake. I like to see how a game could be reimagined.

I still love the original version and I like the new version of it (most of the time).

Honestly this is part of the exact reason I’m not buying it.

First of all, I don’t own a Switch2, and I’m not getting one, Nintendo has been on my shit list lately.

But more than that, OoT is a game that’s already had a remake/remaster released once before and was also one of the first games to get a full PC-native decompilation (without use of GenAI, at that). I can play the classic game in 4K/60FPS. I can apply texture filters or graphics overhauls. I can apply randomizers and mods. I can play multi-player. 30 year old game guides and speedrun tech is still valid.

There’s honestly really nothing at all in New-OoT that draws me toward it. I’m completely convinced that the one and only reason this game exists is because Nintendo got big mad about the existence of the decomp project which they can’t legally attack, so they decided to cook up a big old “new and improved” version to try and bait people toward that instead. It’s half nostalgia bait and half trying to bury quality fan works.

I am willing to have my mind changed about this once the game is actually in the hands of the public and we get some more detailed reviews from real gamers, but I really, really don’t expect to.

The headline alone is already saying that this is not just another remaster or re-release of the original game. It’s a full on remake. There are significant differences as a result from top to bottom. Just the overall plot is the same.

do normally go around telling people what they want and what to do?
