I wonder to what extent personal compatibility is taken into account when making crew decisions. Do they interview each other and/or does NASA check to make sure they don’t all hate each other before shoving them all in that sardine can together? I imagine most of them are pretty good at compartmentalizing and regulating emotional distress when it comes to things like misophonia but is not chewing with your mouth open a mission critical skill? Yeah I’m a nurse and this article tracks. I get callbacks on applications within a week of submission or sometimes same day. Are they good jobs? Maybe. But there’s no shortage of them.

But this article also highlights something I’ve always said about cops, whose degrees are basically worthless according to this article. A degree isn’t necessary for their job while it’s literally illegal for me to not have one as well as a license that can be revoked if I fuck up bad enough.

Cops imo have a similar level of responsibility if not for health specifically definitely for safety. They should have to be licensed and that license should be overseen by a public safety board that can remove it. You should be able to maybe get a 3-6 month certificate or something to ticket people for parking in handicapped spots or noise disturbances but you should need at LEAST an associates to carry a gun in the protection of public safety, preferably a bachelors and in addition to martial arts it should cover everything from law, basic / developmental psych, basic first aid and how to identify when a disturbance is probably being caused by a medical problem that needs eval after it’s been safely contained etc.

I do actually believe there is a need for public safety officials who can show up and stop people from injuring each other but we really need to up our expectations for ethics and competency.

Oh no one of the threads most forms of Gnosticism gave in common is the idea that earth / corporeal existence is hell in the same way that the Buddha says all feeling is suffering. It’s like that bit in the good place where she realizes they’re actually in hell already.
