So then they should never have the chance to perform their sports at the Olympics or on an international stage? Representation matters. It wasn’t just white ladies break dancing at the Olympics.

I’m not an expert, but I had an expert explain that an unlocked boot loader is only risky if you think someone nefarious is physically able to get their hand on your phone. Is that true?
Could be. I worked at a diner with a credit card minimum, so lots of cash.
Those people already aren’t paying taxes on tips. When I waitressed, I reported all of my tips and ended up owing so much at tax season. When I complained, everyone asked me why I was reporting my tips.
I think its a way to argue that sports developed by certain groups shouldn’t be allowed in the Olympics because then those who didn’t traditionally develop said sport might compete in them. It results in exclusion, which is worse than the risk of cultural appropriation IMO.
Hmm, it seemed to be a problem with subsistence crops too. We were working on black rot resistance in sukuma wiki which isn’t a cash crop. We were working on resistance specifically because it reduced the need to rotate crops. People could grow it more continuously without risking yield loss.
Years ago I went to Kenya and Tanzania to asses some fields for trials of new cultivars my group was developing. There were a lot of issues with people seeing a yearly decrease in crop yield. But the major issue was actually the lack of crop rotation causing a buildup of disease in the soil which was weakening the plants each year.
I don’t know this guy or his field. And, not carefully fertilizing fields can cause root burn for sure. But poor agricultural yield in Africa is definitely impacted by poor crop rotation.
Synagog shootings, of which there were 2 of in 2018 and 2023 in the US, are not atizionism being masked as antisemitism.
On the ADL, you’re right. I had historically been under the impression they were credible and haven’t update my information because I was trusting NPR. Thank you. But, my point still stands. 2020 onwards has seen a huge uptick in hate crimes targeted towards Jewish people outside of the ADLs statements. Pew research has also covered the issue: https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/03/17/anti-jewish-harassment-occurred-in-94-countries-in-2020-up-from-earlier-years/
I am also against the shift to blame Muslims. I’m only taking issue with trying to diminish the rise in antisemitism.
There’s a lot of complexities with different groups downplaying and exadurtating. I won’t deny mass disinformation in today’s politics and current events. But I’m not going to diminish how a group feels about prejduece against them when they have experienced a mass shooting in 2018, 2 targeted deaths in 2023, a firebombing at a synagog in 2023, and more. The ADL, a pretty credible group (apparently not really), reported a significant increase in antisemitic incidents in 2022, before the conflict in Palestine gained attention and the Israeli government started ramping up their propaganda machine. Bottom line, I don’t want to make this some kind of competition, especially on a post where we should be focusing on the abhorrent treatment of this Palestinian child, but antisemitism is a problem too and I don’t think its OK to rug sweep the issues either are facing right now.

What this woman did was a heinous hate crime. But this isn’t the oppression Olympics. There has been a rise in antisemitism too. No need to diminish that in order to assert that hate crimes against Palestinian people is bad.
A rise in homelessness is great?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that the key difference between the two is that the proposal by hamas wanted to negotiate dead hostages for living hostages.
Either way, I agree with the rest. These cease fires are a facade because neither side trusts the other to keep it and so they dont keep to it themselves. There is no trust. There needs to be more than pinky promises to guarantee the end of this genocide.
If they actually cared, they would take the time to understand the actual situation and realize that puberty blockers aren’t experimental or dangerous.
A protest vote won’t save Gaza. It will allow the war in russia to expand and get more innocents killed though. I do wish people wouldn’t trivialize the second Ukrainian genocide they’re risking.
Actually, many parks do allow drinking. If you check the cities bylaws, they often state explicit locations where open containers are allowed and it often tends to be the major town parks.
I’m saying people won’t be represented. Not just disappointed. Representation is important. That’s my argument. I said it very clearly. Representation isn’t problematic and my argument is literally that I think representation is more important than the risk of cultural appropriation and exclusion. Tucking away minorities to save them from cultural appropriation isn’t it. Its infantalizing. Also, we can fight for inclusion and representation and still call out cultural appropriation when it occurs.
