Ah, I must’ve just missed them then. A bit sad to hear.

Yea, but at least where I am it is not as wide-spread and abused as in the US. From what I’ve heard from people there, it is almost rare to have a non-adjunct/TA the first year when studying. I have been to a few universities in Europe and I have met a total of 1 adjunct ever, and that was a rich software developer who exited tech because she thought it was fun teaching after her career in industry. Now it might be a bit field dependent though, I am in STEM + medicine so maybe it is more widespread in the humanities?
And as for the sports stuff I think I’ve seen some numbers which suggests football is a net-positive for US universities money wise.
The whole video is about the American system - so yea it is bad. Now getting tenure is not easy even outside america, but the adjunct stuff, the dean and board of directors and football teams are all just american frivolities.

World News@lemmygrad.ml•Megathread for the US war on Iran | Week 23 of 2026
0·6 days agoThey have said this thoughout the war though, this and threates to the read sea - at most we have gotten a few rockets here and there but nothing substantial. Not that I blame them in the slightest, they are a warrior people but they also need time to build civilly and militarily before they join battle again.
What I think is most interesting are the reports of Hamas having started building fiberoptic drones. If they can learn from Hezbollah, there could be a more asymmetry on the Palestinian front. So when shit breaks loose, hopefully it will be too ouch for the Zionists, but we’ll see.

0·9 days agoTrita Parsi spoke of this a while back. iirc he said around 10% of Iranians in the US supported some form of actions against Iran back in 2010 - and that now at the start of this conflict it had increased to around 25-30% (from good polling). So this is still a minority - and that is only the Iranian diaspora in the US. So it is definitely NOT a majority position even outside of Iran, but of course it is elevated in the propaganda as if it is 99% of all Iranians inside and outside of the country lol.

Anyway – I wonder how soon the western media will start referring to Hitler as a “divisive nationalist figure”

0·13 days agoThis will in many ways make or break India in the coming decades - hopefully it forces good changes since it will have lasting effects on many parts of the world if central Asia becomes inhabitable. I guess only the future will tell.

0·20 days agoI agree that in material costs the US is in a better position to wait it out - however, most of the wars waged by amerikkka throughout history have ended due to mounting domestic political cost. What is interesting now is that alot of former alies of the US regime are turning against it publicly, so it might be that even if they could win the game of chicken in theory - it is too high of a cost politically.
I agree that Israel seems to have accelerated their expansionist project, it is very interesting to see politicians in my region (EU) continue to try and justify it. I wonder if this will be the final nail in the coffin for the perceived “humane & liberal values” that the broader western conscious still attributes our states. (obviously most organized people now it’s a sham, but you’d be surprised the shift that has occured in the minds of the general un-organized populace these last few years)

World News@lemmygrad.ml•Megathread for the US war on Iran | Week 21 of 2026
0·20 days agoWhat do you think guys? After yet another week of thruth social posts and back-to-back statements from both parties - will this be the week where we see either an escalation or an agreement? Now that the US regime is back from China, are they more inclined to pursue military action or will this just continue to fissle out without much progress?
It is obvious that both sides are quite far from eachother (mostly stemming from the US continuing to push for maximalist concessions), still the most immediate suffering seems to be felt by the people in Lebanon, Palestine and Iran.

0·1 month agoI feel like there have been escalatory retoric from Iran towards UAE the last days. There have been a lot of talk regarding their alleged involvement in american strikes as well as a few of their drones being shot down over Iran.
My guess is that this is a warning to the rest of the Gulf that things wont go back to how they were and further alignment with US/Israel wont be beneficial.

World News@lemmygrad.ml•US war on Iran | Megathread for Week 12 of 2026
0·3 months agoThe figure thats been thrown around by shipping companies is 2 million dollars, or around 10% toll. Read an analysis which said that with around 2 billion dollars of value flowing through the strait every day, this rate is basically enough to completely offset the economic sanctions. So far thai, chinese, greek and some other countries vessels have been allowed to pass. American or Israel affiliated ones are excluded though.
This is also why France and Germany are in talks directly with Tehran allegedly.

New strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut. Everyone seems to be holding their breath and wondering how a possible retaliation from Hezbollah/Iran could look. This has been one of Irans red lines in the so called “negotiations” with the US regime, but I have seen nothing officially yet.
Trump has reportedly called for more “surgical strikes” against Hezbollah so no condemnation from that sicko.
