People thought there was going to be an “after W. Bush” and then the democrats legalized and codified some of the worst excesses of Bush’s War on Terror.

The things put in place by Trump that are dangerous will not be removed, just like the things that Bush put in place that are dangerous (DHS, ICE) will not be removed.

This is what I mean when I say “both parties are the same” because by and large both are totally on board with wholesale spying on the US populace (and by extension treating us all as potential criminals/terrorists on no suspicion whatsoever) as long as they can make a buck along the way.

There are very few Ron Wyden’s, who has essentially made his career trying to get people to understand how dangerous this mass surveillance is. He recently pointed out that there’s still classified legal interpretations from the Bush admin that even back then he claimed the US citizenry would absolutely lose their shit if they found out existed. He can’t tell us what it is, but he’s been warning us about it for 25 years.

Yes, Shel Silverstein is close, but there’s something about the sketchiness of it that reminds me of like some kind of horror drawings I remember from being a kid, but I couldn’t place it. I don’t remember Goosebumps books having quality art, so I don’t know what I’m thinking of. I want to say Edward Gorey, but I know that’s not right. I wish I could place it!
