  • A lot of recent Ubuntu release upgrades have blown up leaving entirely broken machines. My machines. My home server has some how not been one but several laptops and work servers had to be rebuilt from scratch or deep package hackery from recovery kernels.

I use converted a laptop to arch BTW and haven’t run into this meme irl yet.

  • I’m curious why you’d say that. Ubuntu has made some weird decisions.

I dislike their DE. Snaps where a flop buy the vision was ambitious and cool if it had worked. And Id prefer a gnu system utils. But those are just reasons I don’t use it.

So if you like a Ubuntu derivative, they’re a fine vanilla distros. And they’ve always had deep ties with the FLOSS community and they are one of the primary reason we have a Linux desktop. So not sure I get the hate.

  • A decade ago I would e stoked. But with Google’s home platform wasting away, their integrations dead, and their blind push on “AI” at the cost of their entire platform working, it just makes me sad.

Also I have the previous model and the updates have just made it worse over time. It tried to set my thermostat to 265f last weekend. It looses timers sometimes which is not great in the kitchen. I barely use it anymore.

Also with chip prices sky rocketing, staying at $100 has some big red flags for capabilities…
